Can I play a Blue Ray DVD in my regular DVD player?
I guess what I am asking is will I be wasting my money on a Blue Ray movie if I don't have a Blue Ray DVD player?
I can't justify buying a Blue Ray DVD player until my existing one breaks.
A DVD player will not play Blu-Ray discs.
Most Blu-Ray players will play Blu-Ray's and DVD's, but the reverse is not true for DVD players. Otherwise why would anyone want to purchase a Blu-Ray player?
@hackman2007: OK thanks - I didn't know there would be an issue. This helps a lot.

Actually blu-ray players are not that expensive anymore. Here is a refurbed one from Best Buy on-sale for $39. Unfortunately it's sold out online but keep your eyes open and you should be able to find one for less than $50. Especially if you settle for a base model with no wifi capability.

@jimmyd103: Thanks, I'll check it out.
Your DVD player will NOT be able to play Blu-Ray movies.
Blu-Ray discs are read with a different physical laser (one more toward the "blue" end of the visible spectrum as opposed to the older "red" lasers used for DVDs). In almost every other regard, Blu-Ray discs are the same as DVDs, but due to using a laser with a shorter wavelength (hence the color shift), disc makers are able to encode more data in the same space.
As far as I'm concerned, a PS3 is still the best Blu-Ray player out there (and it probably will be for some time).
I knew there would be someone to mention the PS3 as a Blu-ray player. With Blu-ray players now less than a quarter of the price of the PS3, there’s really no reason to get a PS3 to just play Blu-Ray movies (especially at the price of $39.99). The cheapest Blu-ray player will look and sound just as good as the PS3.
No, you can not. i tryed that and it didn't work out. IM LOOKINJG FOR ONE THOUGH!!!!
Ha, there is no such thing as a blu-ray DVD. DVD is the brand name from Toshiba for their laser disc technology. Blu-ray is the brand name from Sony for their laser disc technology.
There are blu-ray discs and there are DVDs. Saying that you have a blu-ray DVD for sale is like saying I have a Pepsi Coke for sale. Both are brand names.
I don't know, but maybe you can tell me if I can play my 8 track tape in my audio cassette player?
