with the updates they've released, the bionic isn't that bad... and a lot of people didn't like it so you may be able to find it cheap.

Even if you bring your own phone, if you renew your contract you will no longer have unlimited Data. I think you have to just keep your current plan and stay month to month without signing a new contract. If you tell me what your current phone is, price range and what features you are looking for in a phone I could make a better suggestion. Right now, as your question stands, I would suggest searching Craigslist or Ebay for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, but depending on how much data you use, there are better options out there and you don't have to sign a contract.

THe US is so far behind in mobile that it isn't funny. The carriers here are about money and money only. Now, I have no problem with a business being about making money. That's what it's about. Greed, on the other hand, I do have a problem with.

You can keep your plan, but you will not sign a new contract. When your current contract is up, you just keep paying the same price, same plan and you won't lose service. As long as you are signing a new contract, Verizon will make you go to a tiered plan. This is the way I understand it. You can keep your plan, but you cannot buy a discounted phone or sign a new contract. Nothing on your account will change. You will keep your discount through work. You will keep your unlimited data. The only difference is, you won't be bound by contract and can leave anytime you want without paying an ETF.

This new policy will not take effect until "summer", so if you are eligible for an upgrade now, do it now. If you are not eligible yet, wait until the change goes into effect and research how people keep their unlimited plans do what they do. I'm not sure what your budget is, but there are some good phones out there for cheap. If buying on Ebay or CL make sure the ESN is clear for Verizon.

Is there another carrier that might be cheaper, even with your discount? There are a lot of providers now that are pay-as-much-as-you-need, but may not be in your area.
