I have had many answers... it was very an AGE related question.

When I was pretty young (4-7 years) or so... public service and adventure (policeman, firemen, etc...)
When I was pre-teen it was more about gaining as much knowledge as I could so as to make a better choice. But FAME was never really a desire.
After I got my hands on my first computer... well that was it... ever since any job I have considered as what I would LIKE to do or as my DREAM JOB has always been some aspect of computers.

Independently wealthy.

Barring that, I'll settle for being a bar owner. Long time dream, which would probably require the former to do properly.

Seriously... I wanted to be the world's greatest rockstar... but my fingers were not quite as agile as my imagination; so, I'll settle for being in a profession that help's people reach their dreams and goals...

I wanted to be a radio DJ for ages. I took a "intro to radio" class at my high school which was a total joke and basically soured me on the idea.

The idea of being a teacher also floated my boat briefly.

When I was about 4 or 5 my dad asked me that and I told him I wanted to grow up to be a giraffe. He told me I couldn't. I was mad at him for years, because I thought he meant he wouldn't allow it, rather than that it was impossible.

When? More like If.

I am a simple man of simple goals: A loving father and husband.

I don't remember what I wanted to be when I was really little. But from about 3rd grade through junior high I wanted to be an astronaut. When I realized that the path towards that career was very narrow and almost required a PhD in a hard science or military service, I decided I wanted to be an engineer and work for the something space related. But in college I ended up hating my structures classes and loving aerodynamics. So now I design airplanes.
And, now, when I grow up I want to either be an independently wealthy philanthropist or an evil super genius with a basement laboratory and some of those minions like in Despicable Me.

My younger brother used to respond "a crash test dummy"... but that was back when they had those action figures of the crash test dummies with targets on them. I'm still not sure what that toy was trying to teach me as a child.
