Yep. Woot = Amazon

And they didn't have a choice. Once they have an official presence in the state, they're required by law to collect sales tax.

Welcome to the real world, Florida.

Effective May 1, 2014, Woot, Inc. was required to begin collecting sales tax on orders shipped to destinations in Florida.

@magic cave: I was hoping for the difference between "under construction" and actually open for business in the State. Lurking the the legal grey area... ;-)

no, but that's because I do not live in Florida. Woot has been collecting tax for my purchases for a few years now.

I'll get Governor Scott right on that.

@kbsig106: Well, yeah, especially with Gov. "Business gets a free ride!" Gollum presiding over things. I guess thie size of Amazon and the juiciness of all that tax income was too much to pass up.

@thunderthighs: I console myself with tha fact that we don't have a state income tax. Yet.

solution to this could be, Amazon spin off Woot as an independent company, then Amazon could slip deals under the radar into Woot, to sell w/o tax, btw, I live in Fla, don't mind small purchases, but the large ones from either entity, I may hesitate on...this is an example of the progression of excessive & increasing taxation in the whole country...get out and vote next election!!! my 2 cents...or rather quarter...let me have it folks.

@magic cave: I'd gladly trade an income tax in for a sales tax - but we have both! (Albeit, our sales tax is not yet applied by Amazon/Woot and is on the honor system via our state tax return.) Since government (smaller the better) has to have funding, a saving/investment-encouraging consumption tax with food exception wins.

@kbsig106: I just paid $25 in sales tax to Woot, but also ordered from Amazon next day and there was no tax, have yet to pay tax thru Amazon....what's going on here?
