It appears that they have problems today.

Hopefully the index will be available later. For now probably many searches will not be accurate.

You know what's even stranger? I believe that top commenters refers ONLY to comments on Deals, and not on Questions, so it makes the leaderboard statistics more suspect. It also says minimum of ten comments, and we see that there is only one, at most. Hopefully someone in the know will show up and explain how this happened (because I'm now very curious).

[Edit] I'll bet anything that the user in question has commented on older #sponsored deals, and that it just isn't showing.

these are related:

All in all, and to say the least, the speed of our data recovery process could use a little improvement... give it a bit.

@josefresno: Hey, as long as you're paying attention...

How about calculating reputation with the following slight change: Don't add in the users with zero. In other words, keep your current algorithm, but use as divisor only those people with better than zero as a reputation, so that it would be more reflective of actual participation. Who knows, maybe it would speed it up, too.

@shrdlu: The system currently does throw out all the zero reps before calculating the percentage. However, the reputation calculation is really @shawnmiller's pet project... It is something that will get better as we refine the algorithm and more people become active on the site.

@shrdlu: It does count voted comments on questions. I have watched mine slowly inch up over the past few weeks from .67 to over 1.3 right now. I generally only comment on questions so I feel safe saying this.

@sgoman5674: Yeah, I think you are right. Still, the errors that are part of the cleanup will fix most all of this, as our friend, @josefresno, has suggested.
