Does your work force browser choice ?
We are stuck on IE 7 and its driving me nuts. Half of the sites I use arent compatible and a couple that I legitamtley use for work struggle as well. If you try to run a firefox or chrome exe its blocked on the computer any idea of a work around ?
Maybe try and see if you can use Opera? I've heard good things about it, but haven't personally tried it myself. Or, you could just go to your boss and tell him that Firefox and Chrome tend to be better browsers and are more secure. Maybe he/she will see reason and allow it. Also, try making friends with some guys in IT and see if they'll help you out.
For staff they do not force us to use a particular browser, but the students must use IE 9.
You're so lucky to have IE7 we're using IE6 here.
I'm glad I'm one of the privileged few who can install Firefox.
Its not a go to my boss kind of thing its a company with more than 5000 employees and they have lots of rules. I have been told no before but I have rarely seen them go the route of acutally blocking the windows services behind the exe thus forcing it to fail the install
yes! we are all stuck on IE7 since we got Windows 7 but I think before when we were on XP we had IE6. i also have a work laptop at home that is supposed to be the same but i installed Chrome on it. sometimes if i VPN my Chrome gets deleted but I reinstall. just keep the exe in my downloads folder and double-click :)
Sorry, I don't know of a workaround. Maybe someone else does, but we run IE9 at home and at work. I bet shrdlu would know. You can ask her but she has notifications turned off. Good luck!
Can you execute programs from a flash drive? If you can, you can use portable apps.
Go to www.portableapps.com and download the free software. Install it on a flash drive, start it up and then download the browsers you want, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, and a few others. Lots of other programs will run in this environment. I've used it in public libraries and while visiting friends and relatives. Everything executes from the flash drive with no modifications to the host system.
They let us use whatever we want except Chrome. Our IT dept said that even though it is supposedly anonymous data collection, the browser records every keystroke and gives it to Google for marketing purposes.
@tbgolladay: Really cool idea thats what I am going to work on this morning ... Ill let you know if it works
@tbgolladay: sigh .... didnt work but I had alot of hope for that !!! other apps work but not the browser ones
@djbowman: Sorry it didn't work for you.
