That already exists, effectually... Just not in the precise process you describe. Deals with no WOOTS get knocked off the fresh page into oblivion as new items are listed. To really see the process in action, be sure to click the "most votes" sorting under the fresh tab.

The actual process of negative voting would be a can of worms. The benefit it would provide is getting lame deals off the popular list quicker. The drawback is that it would get GOOD deals off the popular list quicker. Imagine if every iPhone fanboy could unvote android and WM phones. If every person who posts a negative comment could unvote it. If people could unvote it simply because they don't like the brand? The negative opinions of some shouldn't be allowed to affect the visibility of the deal to others. It's not fair that I could vote down every Star Wars deal because I think Star Trek is better. Many people like Star Wars and it's still a deal.

"this would also mean that we would have to choose WOOT or UN-WOOT (or some other catchy WOOT-ish word) when we comment, but that's a good, attention attracting thing."

You actually can unvote your own comment. Just click the Woot! number next to your post and it will devalue it by one Woot. I'm not sure what that point of that is.

Now if we had an option to negative-vote other people's posts that would be fun. But I wouldn't want to to affect the location of their post. It wouldn't have any practical purpose that way, though. :p

@gregorylikescheapstu: true, but frankly the idea of fanboys of any flavor taking things to that extreme of haters inc is more fantasy than reality - a few radicals might flag things consistently, but eventually with the computer/server tools admins & webmasters have the prepetrators will be blocked (if they could decide they wanted to).

the system works now as is, but change is what promotes progress - or is that the other way around...?

@jxliv7: It isn't, you're wrong, and this has been asked so many times before I no longer even feel kind about responding. Seriously.

I see very few votes on very good deals in the fresh page.

1. Woot user post items to the fresh page.
2. Woot user vote items to the popular page from the fresh page.
3. If a woot user does not like the content on the popular page they should go to the fresh page and vote items to the popular page.
4. If a woot user does not like the content on the fresh page they should post items they would like to see on the popular page.
5. If the type of item you posted is liked by all other users you will be rewarded and more deals like your will be posted and no one will complain.
6. If the type of item you posted is liked by all most users you will be rewarded and more deals like your will be posted and punished with consent complaints about your deal.
7. If the type of item you posted is not liked no one will vote it to the front page and you will be the only one.
8. If taboo or duplicate it gets thrown out.
