With an HD Digital Multimedia Player can I play .avi files from my external hard drive?
I have lots of ".avi" files on my external hard drive that I would like to play on my TV. I usually watch the files on my computer wil VLC medial player, but cant watch it on my new TV. My computer does not have an HDMI jack so I am wondering if this device is one way i can do it...
To summarize - will this play .avi files directly from my external hard drive when i plug in the usb?
Thanks all!

Not sure about that product, but if you have an Xbox 360 you can play your .avi files from your hard drive on your TV
No personal experience with this, but according to the description, yes.
It supports .avi and will read from a usb storage device.
If you are planning on wireless networking this device, you'll need the adapter mentioned:

It also will network by ethernet cable.
If you are not going to network it, no problem you can still play from your external storage.
my video card supports two monitors. Both outputs a DVI. I hooked a DVI – HDMI cable to my TV and optical out from my PC to my Yamaha receiver. It sounds complicated, but it takes less than 10 seconds to get and AVI, xvid, divx, and MKV HD to your flat screen. If you don't want to do all that wiring, get a rewritable DVD, do not download anything larger than 4.3 GB, DVD and play them in a up converting Blu-ray player. A new one for 70-$80 will play all of these formats and up-convert them for you to boot. Just count on about 10 min. for the burn and you're set to go. MKVs can look very close to Blu-ray.
