What's a good car charger for a Samsung Galaxy Tablet?
So Mom's getting a Samsung Galaxy Tablet. She and Dad do a lot of driving trips and I thought it would be nice to get her a car charger for it. Does anyone know of a good charger? I probably need a reasonably long cord, as they'll need to plug it in at the back seat port (Ford Explorer) so the GPS can have the front port. Otherwise, is there anything specific I need to look for? Anything to avoid?
If it uses a standard micro usb port, your best bet is something from monoprice.com. If length is a concern you can buy a car adaptor that has a usb port and a separate cable to meet your needs.
The Galaxy Tab uses a proprietary signaling technique from the charger to the tab to tell it to charge at full rate. It also uses a proprietary connector.
Your cheapest solution is a generic USB-output charger and a long USB cable. That will get you a reasonable charge on the tab. You can also (if it's rooted) install a custom kernel since many of those don't enforce the charging restrictions.
The OEM charger is $17 on the mothership, but comes with a short cable.
