If a new movie has _______ starring/costarring, I know it will be good; who goes in the blank?
All hits, all the time! It depends on your movie preferences, of course, but it seems that all the stars eventually are in a movie that disappoints.
The name that has come to mind for me is Denzel Washington; always way-good movies. How about you?
Steve Zahn.. or was it Jason Statham?
Philip Seymour Hoffman - off the top of my head.
Morgan Freeman! :-)
I'll second Morgan Freeman
My grandson would say Lightning McQueen; but he has been pretty much typecast out of any role but playing a car.
For me, Meryl Streep gets me to the movies every time.
I don't have any for "starring/costarring" but if it says "Written and directed by Joss Whedon," I'm willing to camp out at the theater for weeks just to see it.
Denzel has had nothing but crap movies for over a decade.
DeNiro, Pacino, or Kevin Spacey.
Christian Bale, minus Terminator.
Pauly Shore
Yes, this is a joke.
By the way, did you see that he is trying to make a sequel of "In The Army Now" with Andy Dick? I can't wait for the collector's edition box set for both movies when it comes out. :)
@wnyx585am: That could be an even more interesting variation of this questions. If _ is in a movie you know it will be bad. Fill in the blank.
John Ratzenberger.
We were discussing last night whether he could pull off a Scottish accent.
@tellingson: He's had some winners in the past (see Raising Arizona), but Nicholas Cage, ie Knowing, Next, Ghost Rider 1 or 2...
Robert Downey, Jr.
By far my favorite actor. I'll go see anything with him in it. If you haven't seen Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang you're missing out.
Leonardo Dicaprio's more recent stuff has been pretty good
I watch anything with Jason Statham. Statham kicking but for 90 minutes always entertains me. I would of said Kevin Bacon but he has made his fair amount of stinkers, "Beauty Shop" being at the top of the list.
@martinez69: Normally I'd agree with you about Downey, but I couldn't sit through more than thirty minutes of those Sherlock Holmes films.
Matt Damon and Edward Norton. Rounders was pure bliss.
No actor/acrtress doesn't have some "pass" movies on their record, so it's a tough call.
Might seem like an odd ball answer, but I've enjoyed pretty much all of Seth Rogan's movies. Russel Crowe too.
@captainsuperdawg: Yeah, I'm the same way when it comes to Whedon. I'm not a big fan of horror movies, but I went to see The Cabin in the Woods (and enjoyed it). Before it started I was a little anxious and just keep repeating (in my head...please tell me it really was just in my head) "I trust Joss Whedon". I have the same reaction to Joss Whedon tv shows, webisodes and comic books (and everything else the guy has ever made).
Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Bill Murray as long as he's not a CGI-rendered cat.
My rule of thumb is probably a little outdated now but if it has Bruce Willis in it and he shoots stuff with a gun, it's worth watching.
Probably Meryl Streep is #1. DeNiro next.
Edward Norton
Kevin Spacey
Jeff Bridges
Vin Diesel
Don't see it on the list yet, but what about Anthony Hopkins
Denzel Washington
Robert DeNiro
Robert Downey Jr.
Matt Damon
Christian Bale
Jason Statham
Mel Gibson
Tom Hanks
I pretty much love movies!
Nathan Fillion.
Robin Williams
Ed Norton
Meryl Streep, Judi Dench, Helen Mirren
Johnny Depp
:D
No mention of Daniel Day-Lewis?
@proxgotsthafia: Watch Gi-Joe and get back to me about that answer.
John Reynolds (I)
@psumek: You must be mistaken. That movie never existed. * Jedihandwave *
Love Johnny Depp, Sandra Bullock would be a close second.
robert downey jr.
and lyndsy fonseca cuz she's hot (and she's in how i met ur mother, my favorite show)
Jenna Jamison. Don't look it up.
Toshiro Mifune
Anything with these two I will watch.
Edward Norton - Fight Club, American History X
Johnny Depp - Secret Window "You stole my story"
Matt Damon - " Do you like apples?"
Yeah.
" Well, I got her number. How do you like them apples?"
Wow, great response from the community. So many great actors! To Denzel Washington, I'd add Morgan Freeman, Meryl Streep, and Robin Williams to my list. I actually don't watch a lot of movies. @tellingson, I agree on the proposed question, you should post it! @jsimsace - I didn't have to look it up :)
definitely won't get the votes, but i'm one of those crazies who would rather hear about a movie and get excited on the info, rather than the names. "you heard about a movie that actually sounds good?!" woah, i'm with you!
I'm surprised nobody mentioned Samuel L Jackson yet!
Gary Oldman. Some one just give the man an Oscar already, geez, is it that hard to recognize his talent?
Bruce Campbell
For most of my life my rule was "If Edward Norton is in it, it will be good." But then the Incredible Hulk movie happened and I've lost faith.
Jeremy Renner is quickly becoming a favorite. Hurt Locker was brilliant and despite just being a supporting character I though he was great in both Avengers and MI 4.
I'm excited to see the new "Bourne" movie because he's the lead. My wife thinks he should be the next Bond, assuming he can do a passable British accent.
