There seems to be not a whole lot of love for some of the Android tablets out there...
What should I look out for besides resistive screens
I feel like you really want a capacitive screen rather than resistive(Not entirely sure what you meant there actually) I don't have a lot of experience with android tablets. I have a kindle fire and it works well for what I use it for.
I listen to a lot of tech podcasts and it seems like no Android tablets are that great yet. At least when compared to the iPad. Google is supposedly releasing a "Vanilla" Android tablet sometime this year And that's what I'm thinking about currently.
It's sad that there's no great Android tablet yet. We can keep hoping though.
Look for an HP Touch Pad and root it and throw Android on it. Bingo, good Android tablet.
No resistive screens. Get at least dual core at 1GHz. At least 512MB of RAM. At least 8GB of flash. A microSD is required.
Must come with at least Gingerbread (2.34 or higher). Honeycomb (3.1 or higher) is better. Ice Cream Sandwich (4.x) is still on the horizon for most things, but an official upgrade path to it is a good thing.
I'm fairly happy with my Acer Iconia and the Nook Tablet isn't bad if you don't need a camera or GPS.
Definetely go with a capacitive screen tablet. I agree that you need at least 8GB memory and a fast processor of at least 1.0GHZ or more. Also make sure it has a good graphics processor for smooth video playback. My personal favorite is the new Patriot from KIZTEK for only $159.99. Its better than the Amazon Fire with its front web cam (able to make video skype calls) and has more apps, games, music, and content available through the google play market. Also it features the latest Android 4.0 operating system, Ice Cream Sandwich. So no need to worry about making sure it is upgradeable. You can check it out yourself at http://www.kiztek.com/patriot-tablet-pc
