I saw the deal from one of those other sites and just cant buy it. Besides it being too expensive, I like the hunt of the BOC.

I prefer the BoC. All those other ones seem to be a lot less elusive, which is what draws me in to the BoC in the first place.

@captainsuperdawg: The boc is MUCH more fun than the others.

boc is the only one. the rest are all scams.

I bought a couple from other sites and they are more expensive and the mystery items are not worth the amount you pay. At least the BOC is only $8 shipped and nobody else sells one for that low price and includes as much junk in one box.

One example is that I bought a UPS at regular price and it was from a random manufacturer and it came with a mystery item. How exciting. So I bought it. The UPS had only one outlet and the mystery item was a cheap power strip that you can get from a dollar store. You need the power strip because the UPS only had one outlet.

Not in the least. When I gamble, I prefer going to the casino, where I can look directly in the eyes of the person who is stealing my money.

After my 7+ years as a Wooter, I have not been able to grab a boc, but then again, I have not put an extraordinary amount of effort into it. As far as wanting to purchase, win, be given, etc. a mystery box of something I don't want or need on other sites, I am in the processing of going through my own stuff and realizing that I don't want another thing coming into this house until and unless about 1,000 things leave! I am seriously de-cluttering and making some hard decisions on stuff I rather fancy but don't need and truly don't want any more. Perhaps when I am though with that, I shall resume impulse buying and think about mystery deals. That being said, I will still take a swipe at the boxes of crap when and if I see them. It is on my own bucket list (sorry to reinvent the buck stuff) as a wooter.

Strangely, no, but I think that's a bias from working here. Once you know how the sausage is made, who the wizard is behind the curtain, etc.

Welp, I'd like to thank you all for your responses! I realized my folly and thought about how many shirts/boc's/miscwootstuff I could buy with the money I spent on that last mystery box and called them today to cancel it.

You all are my support group, and we're seeing positive results. Thanks!

Wise decision. I was never much of a gambler myself.

Having not been able to get a BOC yet (I know, I know, I'm new-ish), I have tried a couple other sites. I have one coming in the mail soon. The other one I ordered was a semi-mystery box. I knew at least the one item I was getting, so I bought it for that. The mystery items were meh at best, but at least the one item I knew was in there was in good shape (I also knew it was reconditioned, it looks great, the box was all beat up though). I've gotten mystery items from other sites, not impressed at all. I'll probably just stick to waiting for the BOC. I'll get one someday, I'm sure :)

There is a reason the "mystery boxes" are banned here. They are, by and large, complete carp. If one were honest, most of the contents of a Woot BOC are now likewise bad: the best days of the BOC are behind it.

If some sites, like hataday, sell random hats like woot does random shirts and those are OK. They are clearing out stock. You may not like what is on it, but the hat is usually pretty decent. Other than that stay far away from these "deals". Total rip offs.
