Do you know about this chance to protest PROTECT IP (Senate's version of SOPA) in NY City next week?
I got an email from Demand Progress about an hour ago:
Baqui,
Genuinely historic: Next Wednesday we're taking it to the streets.
The New York Tech Meetup is organizing a protest of the PROTECT IP Act (the Senate version of SOPA, the Internet censorship bill) outside of the offices of New York senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand.
We're hoping for thousands of people.
Can you join?
That's 12:30 PM on Wednesday, January 18th at 780 Third Avenue (at 49th St.) in NYC.
Schumer & Gillibrand are ignoring concerns about the impact PROTECT IP will have on the Internet & the New York tech community. It's time to call them out.
Please do your best to make it on Wednesday: There's never been a protest like this in support of Internet freedom in the United States.
**Also, we're trying hard to spread the word about this protest and inspire similar actions across the country. Will you click here to vote up our post about it on Reddit?
Thanks,
Demand Progress

I removed the links from the above (since it was too long anyway). The link with more info is here; you can also RSVP via that link.

I wrote Gillibrand about PROTECT IP last year and her response (possibly written by a staffer) pretty much ignored my concerns and implied that she knew more about this issue than I and anyone opposed to it could possibly know.
I do not know if I will be able to attend the protest next week, but I figure that others of us might be interested in attending.
Occupation has failed and I doubt sit ins are going to help. At this point, the best chance of seeing it repealed (I'm pretty sure it has already passed) is blackouts, people abandoning service providers that back it and possibly massive DDoS attacks.
While I don't condone cyberattacks, the proletariat needs to make their voice heard and they need to do it electronically. We collectively don't have the money that the backers of the bills have and as such, "our" representatives have less interest in our voices.
If you do nothing else, record the actions of your representatives and remember them in the upcoming elections.
