Ever been to a restaurant soft launch? (The new website)
When a restaurant is about to open it typically has a soft launch where only friends and family are invited. The menu is probably printed but perhaps the kitchen isn't cooking all of it. Perhaps the decor is all set up but the staff hasn't learned how to fold the napkins properly quite yet. Well, that is where we are with the new site. (Remember voting on the look earlier in the summer?) The old site is still up but the new site is almost ready to go. So, it is time to do a soft launch for my friends and family... my deals.woot friends and family.
Our sponsored deal Wednesday morning (hopefully I don't get in trouble with @jumbowoot for disclosing that we are a sponsored deal) is the new site. We need your feedback. Check out the site (and the SUPER amazing deal we are posting to celebrate the soft launch) and tell me what you think. See anything weird? (Napkins not folded, empty categories, etc.) tell me here.
I appreciate your feedback my Deals.Woot Family.

So, there won't be any food?
@catbertthegreat: @catbertthegreat: Now come on! I can't even get the napkins folded properly and you want us to serve food? :-)
@erikadyscern: link?
@hobbit: That you will have when the sponsored deal goes up at 1:00 ET. We are still running around the restaurant at this point trying to teach the host staff the table numbers and the wait staff that they can't chew gum. Have I stretched the analogy too far yet?
Been to two soft launchs, both were a nightmare (at Italian joints not the web). If it wasn't a friend, I would have left without paying. On the one ocassion, they had too many people show up. It was supposed to be a small affair, but they never limited the number of people you could bring. With Italians, at least in my area, you bring your family with you. Needless to say, about 100 people were there for what was supposed to be about 30-40. On the other occassion, there were lots of technical issues e.g. grills that worked all day stopped working, soda machine went on the fritz, staff that only worked fast food and didn't know how to wait tables.
In the end, with some headaches, both businesses flourished. I think you can make your own analogies.
good luck.
Wish deals had spellcheck, I'm too tired to bother. I'll check your site at the lunch rush.
Nice layout!
Warranty information?
Hmm, played with the shiny new site. Are there products supposed to be listed in the sections "other" through "clearance"
You still have some "Test Category"s under Camera&Video
Also wouldn't today's sponsored deal also qualify as your daily deal? Then the daily deal link is broken at the bottom of the page, http://shop.dyscern.com/info/dotd
Maybe it is just a bug with chrome, but the site acts like I'm signed in. It gives me the choice to Sign Out at the top(I do not have an account with your company, so I cannot be signed in), clicking on that takes me to a page to sign in.
It is not very clear whether something breaks when you click a tab or you do not have something for sale. Having search returns no results appear, especially when you did not run a search is a little confusing.
Agreed - looks nice... however, in addition Catbert's find on the Deal of the day link being broken, is there actually supposed to be anything in the "gaming" section of the site? It is shiny-looking, and quite squeaky clean. I definitely approve.
congrats on the new site...
found a couple of typos in the faqs:
1-Can you send the item as a gift?
.... We several hundred packages
2-Do you offer a guarantee on your products?
We guarantee the item we sell will on our website for 30 days from date of purchase.
I like the colors. Cool and calm.
Did find a glitch using Firefox. When I did a search for a "table" (just to see what it would come up with) I got this:
"We're sorry, we didn't find any items matching 'table'" But the word table ends up on the second line overlapping the word "Would" in the "Would you like to try another search?"
It does it in Safari too. Of course, it could just be my laptop being hinky.
@erikadyscern: So, did they contact you or you them? And how was it arranged. I have always wondered how this was done.
congratulations on the new site. I am having trouble adding to cart. When I got my item into the cart I could not change the quantity. I could deelete 2 but could not add 1.
Congrats on the new site - I do like the colors! Here are some typos and such that I caught, mainly on the Help pages and FAQ.
Help:
We strive to make is [it] easy
Returns:
Dyscern will provide a full receipt [return?]
Contact Us:
within two hours during weekdays [or?] on the same day over the weekend
+++
FAQ:
[Under "questions about shipping" at the top, some do not have ending question marks]
...they may have a few very minor scratches. However, they [these? "they" with two different antecedents is confusing] will need to be sought out
missing answer: "Can you accept a cashier's check..."
Orders are processed for shipment within two business day[s]
Your new sites first sponsored deal sold out, it must feel good and I hope it continues.
