Anyone else ever get a gift card from a merchant who had to cancel an order?

Several weeks ago I ordered an inflatable yard-display Santa from Sears; it was very heavily discounted as a "seasonal clearance item." Last week I received an apologetic email from Sears, saying the seasonal item I'd ordered had unfortunately sold out before my order could be filled and they were sending me a gift card by way of apology.

This week I received a $15 GC in the mail! No expiration date and good at Sears, Kmart, and sears.com. I don't know if this is a new policy for them or something that's been in place for a while, but I'm impressed!

Got a $50 one from Bloomingdale for canceling on the Le Creuset sale. Very nice thing though I would have liked that Le Creuset for $100.

Geez, why so negative?

You have to vote up more before you can vote down.

Don't get us wrong. Negativity has its place. And downvotes are just as essential as upvotes when it comes to making Deals.Woot a useful place to find deals.

But when your votes lean so heavily toward the dark side, we have to wonder. Go vote up a few things. Accentuate the positive for a little while. It'll do you some good, and it'll do the site some good, too. Then you can get back to dealing out the smackdowns, OK?
