Fortunately I've not worked at companies where this happens. :)

vote-for11vote-against

No, thankfully... Although, I suppose I would be the person charged with setting them up... "Oh, sorry boss, I guess Woot.com somehow slipped through the cracks"

My company does, but my job sometimes involves inspecting websites with NSFW and other questionable content, so I'm exempted from them. (some websites make me wish I was still being filtered...)

Since beyond my normal engineering duties, I also happen to be the whole IT department ... hmmm, what do you think? :)

My company does, but it's not too strict. In the past few years they've unblocked facebook and youtube. It's pretty rare that I find one that is blocked, and most of those are from referral links on websites.

Mine does and it gets very annoying but it least I can still get on woot. My company policy says something along the lines of it's okay to use the internet sometimes to buy stuff online. Plus I can get on facebook or youtube or whatever else on my phone.

I'm blocked on all fronts... Joys of working at a global corporation. "The internet is for work related research ONLY." Just waiting for woot to be found and blocked.

Without the use of my magic box...yes.

vote-for4vote-against

yep...even wine.woot is blocked (alcohol).

vote-for4vote-against

Yep, we sell them, and use them. A neccessary evil, they block stuff they shouldn't but keep us safe.

My company blocks social media, potentially pornish sites, most banner ads, and sites relating to movies (which i'm pretty sure is to prevent streaming). Unfortunately this also blocks Soundcloud, which makes me want to punch things.

When we used T1 lines for internet it seemed like everything was blocked. Now that we've transitioned to fiber optic they've turned off all the web filtering.

at the organization where i currently work, yup. no youtube, facebook, twitter, linkedin, google plus, and more recently no webmail including my actual company's webmail. and what places i can get on to are slooooooww anyway

@w00tgurl: @nws2002:
We filter so that there is still internet for the rest. I can get around the filters (and do when needed), but I try to live with the same rules as everyone else (except streaming music).

My company doesn't block much. I forget which service they subscribe to, but they allow ESPN and Facebook, yet block state lottery sites (GAMBLING!) and even worse, ohcheri.com (SEX!)

Those bastards...

I used to work at a place that would monitor where we were going most and would block the more popular web pages in the name of productivity- no better way to squelch any remaining morale! Woot was gone for us after a particularly indulgent Woot-Off my department took part in. We all blamed each other for F5'ing.

Working at Woot, I've found that there is nothing off limits and no one cares how many times you accidentally clicked on a porn site after a twitter bug duplicated every "woot" when searching for it. BTW- shirt.wootwoot.com is unsavory.

At my job we don't have time for anything but work...so I have to come home to woot! There are filters there to ensure that you don't get off task. I used to work at a library and I got a lot of woot time in. That was before deals.woot was in existence. I would have had a black triangle back then!

Oddly enough I work for a fairly large company (15,000+ employees not including vendors) and we don't, at least in my position. But, I also don't do much else other than work except on lunch anyway and often that turns in to a working lunch. My job keeps me busy, so generally no woot during the day.

vote-for4vote-against

They did and we kept finding ways around them so they just did away with the filters. Win!

Almost all social media sites, porn sites, and game sites are blocked at work. Strangely enough, Twitter is still allowed, but I lost interest in it. I can access Woot, thank goodness, but on some sites, like DailySteal, it blocks the "Toys" offerings since it sees that as a gaming page. It also blocks even tame sites that specialize in undergarments and swimsuits (Egads! Lingerie! How disgusting!). I'm able to get exceptions made, occasionally, as long as I can justify a business need to access a site, but sometimes it's more trouble than it's worth.

@agingdragqueen: I can just imagine ... "I see you submitted a request for a replacement F5 key. Isn't it a GREAT coincidence that we just had a Woot-off here?"

vote-for2vote-against

@narfcake: sooooo rude, right? Never did get that BOC.

vote-for2vote-against

yes, but only because im with a major Internet/tv broadband support and we have to be able to, though it is still loosely limited

without chasms.com or speedtest.net i would barely be able to do my job

funny though we can get on espn.com but flash is blocked so we can't even tell people how to navigate and use their mobile tv services HA. don't expect tech support to know how to use the product, but most the time we can fix it

woot is blocked for shopping :( but I can still use my gmail widget :)
edit: my igoogle widget :)

My company blocks lots of sites, but not woot! I don't like the nannying but at least it's not as strict as some. Most of the common sites are still open.

vote-for1vote-against

No, though I completely understand and would not be offended if they did begin to filter sites. I enjoy the unrestricted access, but it certainly is something you need to be mindful of in day-to-day activity.
