It's likely only a month of live. After your nearly free month of Xbox Live Gold, you'll automatically be renewed for a certain amount of time (probably a year) for the full price which could be $60, if it's for a full year. That's one of the ways that Microsoft makes money, by drawing people in with their $1 deals and then screwing them over with the automatic renewals at full retail price.

@captainsuperdawg: It's easier to cancel your auto-renewal now though.. Before you had to phone in.. now you can do it online-- you just have to remember to stop the auto-renewal.

However if you call in to do it, you can usually get the guy on the line to give you an offer for $35-$40 for a year to stay on auto-renewal

@devexityspace: Yeah, I know you can cancel, but the average American is either too lazy or too forgetful to do so. You forget that most @ooters tend to be smarter than the average bear (and by bear I mean person)

Save money and hassle. Just buy the pre-paid cards on sale and be done with it.

Probably worth your time/energy to go ahead and spend the $36 always on sale price for a year of XBL.

@captainsuperdawg: I bet @ooters... is probably wondering what the crap just happened. If there is someone with that user id that is.

I think a dollar is worth it if your on top of your accounts. I'll try it when I have a game that needs online interface.

@jeremytheindian: I'm confused as well. I typed in deals(dot)wooters only with an actual dot instead of (dot)

And, no. As far as I can tell, there is no user with that identity.
