The ones tested on The Impulsive Buy were bought on ebay since they are only available in Japan. This listing doesn't seem like much of bargain to me, but maybe it's worth $15 shipping to some people for the thrill of trying something bizarrely different.

@gionot: expensive and risky, buying food from a foreign country is often illegal unless you get some kind of permission.

@mybestuser1: Not really. If it's a dry good you're going to be OK most of the time. If you're unsure you can start here for answers.

Also, Pepsi Cheetos? Gross.

An ideal accompaniment to wash down with a coffee or lemon-favored cola.

Hmmmm. Have you tried your local Asian grocery stores? I find all sorts of nifty items there. I used to stop at one on my way home from work at least once each week. Might be worth a try!

@belyndag: Sadly the Asian stores around here are mostly Korean, Chinese and a few Vietnamese. The only Japanese store I have heard of was a media store selling newspapers, manga, selling and renting videos and DVD discs.

@mybestuser1: Too bad. We have a huge Asian community here, largely because there was a relocation program for Vietnamese families back in the late 60s and early 70s.

My favorite Asian store seems to cater to people from all over that part of the world. It's rather fun to visit and realize that all of the customers in there are speaking entirely different languages. (On the other hand it has made it difficult for my volunteer group to serve the Asian community as we can't just get materials translated into one language.) In any case, it might be worth checking out some stores to see if they carry items from Japan, as well as other Asian countries. At least it will be fun finding new things to try.
