Guess I'm moving to a city where I can use local.woot finally...
At 5am this morning we found out the fiance got an internship in Seattle, which is great since it's a great place for her career, but that means I have 4 months to find a replacement job of sufficient value.
I don't have a college degree, but have worked myself to quite a good position at my current location, so I'm nervous as all get out to walk away.
Tonight I'll start hitting the market via Monster, and will start making contacts, I know the next 4 months are going to fly.
Just venting, can't really do it on facebook, I don't want to rain on her parade, nor do I want my co-workers saying anything before it's due time. Sigh. At least it's not horribly far away, I'm a Northern California native (Sacramento/Bay Area), so a day drive is all.
The good news, I can start using local.woot now :)
Congrats to the fiance, and good luck finding a job in Seattle.
Congrats to your future wife! Don't stress on not having a degree, just make sure you resume shows that you have the work experience. If you know your stuff and can prove it, you shouldn't have any issues finding employment.
Best of luck! You'll love it here, really. :) There are so many great things to do and the time will fly.
Lol thanks all, yes, we're happy, and believe me, I am much happier to be looking at Seattle instead of West LA....
Maybe there's a job at woot.Wa .... ;)
@inkycatz: That is aweSOME! I'll have to read those closer off the clock!
Good luck with the job search! Might I suggest (depending on your field) avoiding monster, but trying to apply directing with the companies you want to work for? That'll help you tailor your resume better & have a better shot at an awesome job.
@figgers3036: this is true, I've been reviewing monster just to see what the major markets are, gauging the market kind of in advance.
Now that we know where we're headed, I'll dig in deeper with a passion.
Nobody reads local.woot anyway.
If you're seriously looking for a job, start with serious job sites:
@bluescreenofwin: I appreciate the links, while I know of linkedin, I've not used it, and never heard of dice.
It's happening, for sure.
End of March we go look for a rental and hopefully line up some face to face inteviews.
Early June the day after graduation we move.
I've got a few weeks of vacation to burn up at work, so I'll be using that to my advantage.
@spikedknight: That's all incredibly exciting!
...who knows, maybe we'll be seeing you in July with a fancy-schmancy yellow square thingy after your name.
