I know a lot of people that played it and really loved it, but I also heard of enough people not liking it so much that it would really depend on the price to say whether or not to go ahead and buy.

If you do end up getting it- and like a good challenge- I would recommend playing with the HUD turned off and trying to do a no-kill run. I haven't played the game personally, but most of the people who recommended the game to me played it that way on their first run through and said it was an incredibly engaging way to play.

My friends that play said they hate it. It was a nice idea, but poorly executed. (Their opinion.)

@omegaboris: No. They stopped this week, but that's just them. It has a 60% score just about everywhere.

It's really love it or hate it.
Most people can't get over the staggering amount of bugs.

@stryker4526: Story of gaming today. Release it now, patch it later.

On topic (sort of): I have not played defiance, but I am really enjoying Injustice. Story mode is kinda meh, but it's a very nicely tuned fighter with some depth (probalby not as much as MvC, but still).

My husband has been playing non-stop since it came out and really likes it a lot. Like, a LOT.

It might be advisable to try before you buy (rent from Blockbuster, if you've still got one, etc.) Or you could see if Gamestop has a used copy in. Buy it, try it and return it w/in 7 days for a full refund - just say you weren't happy with it. Or keep it if you're cool with an overpriced used copy (as opposed to an overpriced new copy ;)

The reviews for it have been pretty bad. IGN gave it a 5.5 out of 10 and the first line reads "I didn’t hate the dozens of hours I spent shooting generic aliens and mutants in Defiance, but I know I’m not going back to it, either." and goes on to mention "the dullest and most repetitious quest design I’ve experienced in an MMO" and "major framerate problems, lots of pop-in, and regular lag."

The good thing about online games is they're never necessarily finished, and maybe they'll fix this one up somewhere down the line, but for now I'd avoid it like week-old roadkill.

@downpixel: I wrote this whole post thinking about Dishonored .__.

No, definitely don't get Defiance. Get Dishonored instead.

Just saw Defiance for XB360 on Amazon.com for $9.99 (week of Sept. 18 and still same price as of this posting). Even if it is a less than stellar game, for $10 I would give it a try.
