Do coupons cause unemployment?
I admit that I am as bad as the next guy. Anytime I make a major purchase (or even minor one for that matter) I will scour the Internet to find the best deal and what coupons are available. However isn't this general attitude among modern shoppers actually causing stores to close (Best Buy, Borders) and others to reduce costs (layoff)?
I can see how coupons would be good for the economy if they get someone to purchase something that they ordinarily wouldn't have. However if someone spends only $50 on something that they were willing to spend $100, it seems that the economy missed out on an extra $50 and over time would result in lost jobs.
