I've waited and waited and I think it's time. Been a mac person for as long as I can remember, finally got an iphone last year, guess it's time to move up another notch towards Apple owning my soul =D

I still don't have the money to buy an iPad 1st gen, so I won't be getting the latest version.

Its a solid meh. If the rumor of a tactile screen had been true then maybe I would consider giving apple another shot. But it still looks like more of the same from everything I've read.

It's more of the same.
If you already have a newish iPad then this is just bragging rights.
If you don't already have a newish one, this is just like that one.
If you can think of the iPad as model 2.a, this is model 2.b.

right now I am sticking with my palm sized iPad, not as many features as the full size versions but works just fine for me. Ok, truth be told it's my iPod touch

@gidgaf: Yeah I was a little underwhelmed by the updates. The only big change to me is the retina screen, other than that I would just stick with an iPad 2, if I could afford either one that is.

Better resolution would be nice. I wont be upgrading my iPad 2 to an iPad 3 any time soon, though.

Now, if it came with flash capabilities and/or a MicroSD card slot, I would be all over it.

It's a meh for me as well. I'm not really in the market for a tablet anyway, but there don't seem to be that many radical updates.

Is it just me or does that seem to be the Apple trend lately? Don't get me wrong, they put out a good product. But I'd rather get one big upgrade every 2 or 3 years or so rather than small ones yearly.

Of Apple products, I've got a late '09/early '10 MBP and an iPhone 4 and the only reason I'd upgrade either is if one broke. The big upgrades just haven't really been there as of late, IMO.

Isn't Apple the "thin" company? Why is the iPad3 thicker than the iPad2?

@miyoshinum5: I have an honest question, why were you underwhelmed? What were you expecting? You have quad-core, better screen, better camera, a whole new suite of apps, still amazing battery life, LTE, and a bunch of other software updates.

What would have impressed you? Or is the fact that so much of this was expected that it is now impossible for Apple to surprise anyone with all the leaked information?

@coolphilip04: I would assume they needed to beef up the battery to support the Retina display. That's the reason it would be a little thicker.

@imshadow22: I was just saying the same thing to a co-worker. I have to admit I have been underwhelmed in the past with the lack of some basic features on Apple devices, but this announcement was dead on. You expected the iPad 3 to have a Retina screen, better processor and better camera and that's exactly what you got.

Is it just me or did Apple screw themselves over a little bit by offering the iPad 2 for $400 now?

The historical trend for apple releases is for the people that own the previous model will take advantage of how well apple products hold their value and sell them in order to upgrade cheaply. Like this time around, I was considering trying to sell my ipad 2 for $400 and then only have to pay about $100 to upgrade-but now that they're selling the same thing new for $400 I could only hope for $300-350, and I'm not going to paying $150 or more to upgrade when there's no new feature that I MUST have.

@quailman: Sorry, what? How is Apple 'screwing themselves' by offering their remaining stock of iPad 2's at a discounted price?

The new iPad will be a nice upgrade from my iPad, with a faster processor and a better screen.

@theracoon: All I mean is that there are a lot of people, myself included, that if we were still able to sell our ipad 2's for about $400 bucks, which is what a used 16gb wifi one would have gone for, would have upgraded to the new one. But since they're now selling the ipad 2 for $400 new, I'm not going to sell mine for less than that and upgrade-I'm just going to stick with mine until the next gen. Apple's losing money on all of the people, like me, that would have upgraded if we could still sell our used ones for $400.
