Though it hasn't happened yet my best Christmas gift is my new job. I move to Japan in three weeks and start work on Christmas Day.

I gave my husband a Weatherby from their custom gun shop. I swear he almost slept with it that year.

@flashkill: What is the best Christmas present you have ever Given?

As for me... I'll think about it and reply back eventually (wayyy to late).

I like to think that every gift I give someone tops my previous best gift given to someone.

Oh, and did I tell you I'm narcissistic?

My Dad was eyeballing a Fender Strat Squire at a friend's shop for weeks, but couldn't swing it because he has a billion kids - he cried and almost dropped it when I put it in his hands on Christmas eve.

We gave my grandmother a piano. She had always played, but could no longer afford to keep her piano any longer.

I gave my younger son a dirt bike for Christmas when he was 12. We hid the motorcycle, wrapped the helmet to put under the tree and had the video camera ready thinking he was just going to flip with excitement. Instead he thought we were playing a cruel trick on him and got mad. Still, it was the best Christmas present I ever gave.

I gave my boyfriend an Xbox 360 250 GB for Christmas last year. Plus the Kinect. Unfortunately I think I shot myself in the foot because I don't think I'll be able to top that one. Siiiiigh...

@thumperchick: It's a good feeling, isn't it? :-) My mom went through a hard time not finding a job for a while years ago - my younger sibs weren't going to have a Christmas - I saved my tips from my first job waitressing - on Christmas eve I drove up with my car full of gifts and food. They say now, years later, they never forgot that. I think it's the best thing I ever did, helps me out when I occasionally feel bad about myself.

@nastyducky: Beautiful story! Your name doesn't suit you. Clearly you are @thoughtfulgenerousgivingducky.

@dreamyvelvet and @gmwhit, thanks, I think I surprised even myself with that one - I was pretty self-centered for much of my formative years. Maybe it was just time for me to grow up and think of someone else for once. This question really brought that old memory back.

@commodog: Errr...the question asks "ever given", not "ever been given". It's all good though. Glad you have a nice memory of your Dad. Happy Holidays!

@staceroo: I feel your pain. I gave both of my teenage daughters an iPad for Christmas last year...where can you go from there?

Got my folks some real papyrus paintings from Egypt when I was there. My mom still talks about them and it was 20 years ago. Cost more to frame them than to buy them

I found my sister-in-law(a very devout woman) a Catholic Bible printed in the year of her birth(1955). Not as hard to find as you'd think, but big impact.

My sister's favorite story growing up was The Velveteen Rabbit. In the story, the boy gets the rabbit as a gift in his stocking on Christmas morning. When we were in college, I found a perfect velveteen rabbit, and made everyone hang stockings (we had stopped doing that years before in my family). On Christmas morning, he was waiting for her there. My grandma didn't understand why I would get my sister something that would make her cry, but they were the good kind of tears.
