what's your definition of 'not too expensive'? we have this one (not pink) and it works quite well:

@carl669:" This link is not valid". For me (I am not the OP but I am interested), "not too expensive" = under $50. I have two other specifications, either really quiet or runs evenly all night (I am a very light sleeper and the thing turning off will wake me and make it hard for me to go back to sleep) and either has no "nightlight" or the light can be turned off (or murdered with a screwdriver).

@carl669: That is the one I was looking. And I was wondering if the quality is good. So, thanks! That helps!

@dcarioca @moondrake: woot's referreal system breaks the link. just cut/paste.

we've found this one to run evenly all night. i think it does have a small light (so you don't trip on it in the middle of the night). i think you could probably put a piece of duct tape over the light though. we paid around $40 for it. here's the same one on amazon:

The ultra sonics I have had are famous for dusting the room with white powder. I switched to a humidifier with a wicking system. I find they are not quite as effective at getting moisture into the air, but work well enough for me, and I don't have to clean as often. I have a Holmes similar to this one at Lowes:

@hot72chev: Thanks! As I mentioned above, I need a 2.3 gallon at least. The one you mentioned is only 1.1, so it won't work. But thank you for the input!
