Ripped from owned CDs, or bought legally from many different sites. Either EMusic or Amazon MP3.

I do not advocate any stealing of other people's intellectual property. Enjoy something? Pay for it.

mainly cd's, and rip them to v0 mp3. Archive the cd itself in a safe place and archive a flac copy on a spare drive as well. what.cd for anything I can't get on cd today.

I utilize less than legal methods.

I get them from Amazon normally. They seem to play everywhere and are decent quality.

And if you're lucky, they sometimes even give away free promo codes so you get free MP3's.

I am lucky in that my library allows everyone to download 3 MP3s each week as long as I don't have any outstanding fines on my library card through Freegal (rhymes with legal) music, www.freegalmusic.com. Some pretty good music on there although the search program leaves a lot to be desired.

I also use Amazon.com or buy CDs at the used book stores or garage sales and immediately rip them to the hard drive I have set aside just for music.

I bombard an MP2 with a beam of MP1s until I'm able to fuse together an MP3.

@lll0228: Me too also.
Amazon is almost too easy. Click boom download and listening in seconds.
And I like the freebies from Amazon. I've picked up on quite a few "unknown" groups that way.
One of my kids had a monthly (Time?) CD sub, and he just gave me about five years worth of CDs. Almost done ripping them.
Plus I spent waay too many hours converting a couple hundred mid 20th Century albums into mp3s. I'm not going back to making them flacs!

People still pay for music?
I buy albums here and there, digital or actual disk. Only bands that I really like and I feel deserve my money.
Most music I get illegally, but if they are good I will gladly pay to see them live and buy some merch, so they get my money one way or another.

ZunePass

Unlimited music for 14.99 a month (you get to keep 10 songs/month). It's a pretty nice deal.

emusic.com is a pretty god site with a mix of mainstream and indie music. The downfall is there is a monthly cap.

I still subscribe to a DJ music service or two, I get almost all my current music that way. Promo only (several of their monthly discs) and ultimix.
