Your just a tad behind the times, they released those all last year. Dr. Pepper, for their anniversary, just released their real sugar soda. I've tried the new Dr. Pepper and it is quite nice. The Dr. Pepper has a softer carbonation and the sweetness is different. You can really pick out the nuances of the Dr. Pepper, namely cherry and vanilla.

I have yet to try either, Pepsi or Mountain Dew, but here is a review: http://www.theimpulsivebuy.com/wordpress/2009/04/21/review-pepsi-throwback-and-mountain-dew-throwback/

The processing is definitely not out, unless there is a massive spike in the price of corn. Sugar still is having mild production shortages in places, so this real sugar thing in the big brand sodas is just going to be a long term trial.

@catbertthegreat: I don't drink regular soda so I wouldn't have noticed. I also don't drink more than club soda.

I enjoy the sugar of the original sodas vs. the Phelokelowhatevero in the new sodas. The new sugar in diet pepsi gives me a headache, so I did a little research. Turns out that the phyla whatevera (nutrasweet) has been correlated to short term memory loss. The are reports of people like me who drink more than one of those sodas getting a headache.

I figure they will all be like aspartame one day and be proven to kill you.

7up's natural soda isn't quite so natural. Read what they have to do to keep their soda "natural". I've never eaten natural food that had to be processed like that before.

Simpler is better.

Nice post.

Ever since I found out about the real sugar sodas on the Teetotalers thread, I have been looking for them. I too noticed the Pepsi throwback and Mountain Dew. I got some of the Mountain Dew for my son and he says the taste is so much better than the regular Mountain Dew. I am still looking for the Coke, so, thanks for the tip and I will head to Costco.

@ecriscit: aspartame in a drink is a diet soda. So that isn't a real sugar anyway. It is made with proteins. Which hasn't actually made me stop drinking diet. Although I tend to drift towards sodas flavoured with splenda since that is a sugar alcohol and slightly less gross. but all of these reasons are why I stick with club soda, no sugar to worry about at all.

I just like the fizzy.

My grandfather's pharmacy had a real old-fashioned soda fountain where the coke syrup was mixed with the selzer water. I used to love them. I also used to ask the kid making the drinks for root beer/coke - I wonder if I would like it today. It was really good then.

Dr. Pepper with cane sugar, not corn syrup, is always available at the plant in Dublin, Texas.
