What is the worst video game you have ever played?
Did you buy it or rent it? What console?
Mine was Army of Two: The 40th Day on PS3. The graphics and play were not even as good as the first one, and the story was total crap. Thanks to GameStop for taking that steaming pile off my hands.

I've played a lot of disappointing games, the first of which was (of course) ET on the Atari 2600.
I personally hate all of the Call of Duty series, but thats more because I don't like FPS's in general, and find that one impossible to play.
Most any of the WWF wrestling games were pretty horrible, and anything with (sport name) (Year) in the name is right up there with overpriced, and underperforming.
Here I thought I would be the first person to mention ET on the 2600, as there was only one comment listed here before me. I found it infuriating that apparently the only thing one could do in the game was fall into a well and then climb back out.
I know I've played some other lousy games as well, but I can't think of one that eclipsed that one. I may still have the cartridge around somewhere...
I think if your answer is on a current gen console you may be too young to answer the question <.<
Trying to think back. The most recent game that made me angry to try and play would be Hammertime or something like that. Indie game on steam.
Off hand, I remember this snes game where you played as some giant Japanese "robot" and fought monsters. I don't remember the name but that game was so terrible.
Ghost and goblins on the nes? If that's the right name. Always made me angry to try and play, I'd give up after awhile. Another game that I always considered near impossible to play was called Dark Tower or Deadly Towers. The latter I think. I did eventually manage to beat it but it definitely ranks as one of the hardest games I've ever beaten.
Without a doubt ET. I can guarantee you that in 1000 years when the robot archaeologists uncover the pile of ET Atari cartridges that were dumped in some landfill, even they will think that it was the worst video game ever made.
I've played some stinkers, but Duke Nukem Forever still takes the cake.
15 year wait for a big pile of (edit: profanity).
@ipegot: I don't think that if you choose a newer game doesn't mean your to young to answer. I have been playing games on every console generation since the NES and I think some of the newer games are turds. Also just because a game is difficult doesn't mean it is a bad game.
that said I think the most recent stinker I have played is Shaun White Skateboarding. I paid $2.99 for it at Best Buy and I still feel I over paid.
@ipegot: Oh, I remember et very well. I was just thinking a little more recent. Going back that far, Yar's revenge was my least favorite. I hated that game.
Wedit: as far as older games go, though, I think we have to cut them some slack. These days, there's no excuse for a really crappy game.
@wickedd365: So true. I couldn't even make it through the demo...I felt bad using bandwidth to download that turd.
@lparsons42: yes, and the anticipation of waiting for ET to come out to play (which iirc took a few years after the movie's release).
at least now a days there are demos for games (PC and console). back then it was just look at the box and hope it was good.
gaming since pong...ah the memories :)
ET seems to be the popular answer, but as a kid, I actually liked the game (and could regularly beat it.)
However, the 2600 does host my personal worst game. Swordquest Fireworld.
It came with a comic book that had nothing to do with the game, and no real instructions other than the statement that there is a secret puzzle you can unlock if you do "the right action on the right screen" The game itself was just a combination of crappy mini-games.
