One week has passed, do you like the new "Top" versus the old "Popular" tab? Why?
The change happened exactly one week ago, how do you like the change now?

I still hate it. I miss a lot of deals now because they don't populate on the front page. Unless you catch them on the fresh tab about 75% gets lost in the shuffle.
Don't like it. Like popular view much better.
I'm mixed.
It was easier to watch the flow of new deals with the popular tab. But that's also because I sit at a computer most of the day and I can check back on deals.woot every once and a while. With the changes, it's a little more difficult to locate the newest deals as every time you click on questions it goes back to the top tab, not the tab I was on (newest/user). So, it makes it a little more of a pain.
Now, with the new changes, if I don't have time one day to check deals.woot it is much easier to find the higher rated deals of the last day or two. So in this sense, I like the change.
I dislike it, but since for deals I live on Fresh it really makes no difference.
The thing I especially dislike is the fact that a "top" item or question still shows up on the Fresh side. I used to be able to sort the wheat from the chaff that way.
I still miss the old deals.woot... but like most things in life, you adapt and deal with it... All you can do is hope that the next big change woot does is for the better and not for the worst!
I stick around for the community.
still waiting for all those whizz-bang bells and whistles, zooming deals and crackerjacks that @snapster said to expect. still not a fan of the new format, but admittedly i'm playing to role of "resistant to change". still realizing that--although i'm playing this role--it's still more buttons to click, more pages to consume, and more duplication between top-and-popular to filter through. there's no questioning that this format leads to more page views for woot. was that the ultimate goal of this change; increasing page views and, in turn, ad impressions in order to boost DW revenue?
I am OK with it.
@pinchecat: no, pageviews are not a metric we care about.
Currently, our most coveted metric is "number of distinct viewers per day who actively contribute" (i.e. vote, comment, add, but not just visit or click through)
Long term and from a monetary perspective, simply visitors of any sort matter. But we get a lot of these coming through from woot and you can understand why our focus might be to have them stick around.
I can't wait until holiday deals start flowing in on this dual algorithm system. I expect to be clicking from Current Rank, Popular Flow and Fresh tab like a madman.
Has anyone noticed how fast a deal can rise to the top of the rankings? Then if it doesn't maintain its steam, it drops back over then next hour. The fluidity is the "zooming" I referred to - I watched this very intently before we launched and I absolutely love this proper calibration between deals.
man, I just have to add that I consider it an awesome bonus how well the Top system works on AtW. There still may be some need for a "sort by last comment" feature, but man this is miles and above better than the unreliable popular flow was for finding questions. People seem to be intuitively understanding the way it works and voting the questions more.
I hate it. I actually stopped Dealing for a couple of days because the site seemed to weird to be on.
It means I look at the first page of "top", then click "popular flow". Extra clicks to get to what I want aren't generally good.
I've never liked it, and I always will.
Like screaming children, some things you just tolerate. :)
@snapster: thanks for your insightful response. out of curiosity, and related to this topic, can you contribute to this question i asked last month?
i was wondering if you or @jumbowoot would post updated google analytics such as the stats posted on this thread:
the way it was worked great, the new "whatever..." is confusing - it means it each time you come back to check things out you'll see things in a different order. ditch it, woot, please. or at the very least, make it an option instead of the default.
No
Eh... I mostly live on the fresh tabs, and had shortcuts for them, so no real change for me.
I do find it interesting to look at the top tab occasionally just to see what the most popular deals and questiosn are, and whether or not I voted for them.
@snapster: AtW? o.O
now you are just messing with us!
"Top" tab? It's still around? Haven't bothered even to look for it after the frst day, since it's totally useless to me. I now miss a lot of the deals, since I'm not interested in reviewing umpteen pages that were posted since my last check-in, but I'm even less interested in seeing a jumbled-up mess of "zooming to the top" stuff that I may or may not have seen previously.
For me, the change makes the site less functional and less fun. Which means I spend less time here.
@magic cave: Agree.
@snapster: Ah, now I understand why I don't care for the new system... it's METRIC. I prefer the old U.S. Imperial/Standard system. Kidding! (But not about preferring the old.)
