I don't see any connection, and they're apparently based in Quebec, so I'd say it's unlikely.

It may be you just encountered a targeted landing page, as the explanation for the logo being there.

vote-for3vote-against

I'm not seeing any deals.woot logo on their site either.

vote-for3vote-against

I didn't see a DW logo either.

Down vote this, it is a scam to manipulate you to use his/her Invitation code!
@lll0228: I trusted you when I clicked on your link, HOW DARE YOU, YOU SUCK!!!

vote-for5vote-against

@caffeine_dude: Does look that way now that I think about it. I'd seen @lll0228 being a good user for a long time, so I didn't even stop to think about that.

I guess I'd like to hear what he has to say on the matter. If he doesn't have a good excuse maybe a helpful mod can tase his account.

@psaux: Give me a second, let me get a screen capture from my computer!

vote-for2vote-against

Here it is: http://ow.ly/i/1dm7U - I am not kidding, this is showing up on my browser for a few weeks already.

vote-for1vote-against

@caffeine_dude: It isn't dude! I just uploaded the screen capture below.

What referral code?! I only shrank the link to their front page! It might be Deals.Woot's engine that changed the link, I didn't. Don't be so cynical.

vote-for5vote-against

@psaux: Thank you.

I don't know why people get so agitated so easily. I always play within the rules, I love this place...you know?!

vote-for4vote-against

@lll0228: I'm thinking something funky is going on in your browser, since that's an out-of-date D.W logo at that. Maybe your cache is somehow corrupted or perhaps they're having a problem at their CDN. (Content delivery network - aka servers spread around the world that try to give you a nearer place to grab content from, and thus faster).

Anyway, this can probably be resolved easily enough by way of some webdev tools in your browser. Mind if I ask what you're using? If it's Firefox we'd be best off getting you to install the firebug add-on, but the others all have adequate tools built in these days.

From there we'll need to look at the element the graphic is in or that it's the background of, and hopefully correlate it with something in the network transfer tracking mechanism, so we can determine the actual source,

Let me know if that made enough sense to go on, otherwise I'll be happy to lead you through the process.

One of the ways to gain membership to this site is "a special invitation from one of [their] marketing partners." @lll0228 Do you happen to remember how/when you signed up? I'm wondering if you signed up through, or in relation to, a Deals.woot sponsored deal. In that case the site could indicating the source of your membership.

Woot Mods changed the original link from this post to https://www.beyondtherack.com/auth/register.

Thanks, woot mods!

Pic does not mean nothing. No address

@caffeine_dude: I think you're being paranoid here. @lll0228 has been with us a long time and, unless his account has been compromised, I'm inclined to believe the screenshot.

Try decaf.

(I'm assuming the double negative wasn't intentional.)

vote-for3vote-against

@gionot: That sounds very plausible...

vote-for1vote-against

@caffeine_dude: You are ridiculous.

Here, this includes the URL line:

vote-for2vote-against

@gionot: Maybe, that might also explain the weird code that apparently Caffeine_Dude saw. When I clicked on that link it just took me back to the same Event page.

vote-for2vote-against

@psaux: I have looked into the source code, and the image IS there in the original code. It was not cached from Deals.Woot.

I think it might just be reminding me that I joined via Deals.Woot. But that's REALLY uncommon!

vote-for6vote-against

@lll0228: The picture was not what your link was to originally. Your original link included your Invitation code link says invite=##### in the address. So when I clicked on it, it asked me to sign up using your Invitation code, giving you credit this violates a woot rule. Your original link did not have the calendar in it, so I tattled and woot mod fixed it, if it was an honest mistake I apologies.

You can surely understand my point of view, when I am at woot I like to feel safe clicking on black triangle links with no real idea where they really lead. I am not a fan of the abbreviated links on woot because you can not hover over the link to see where you are really going to go. I felt like you violated this trust, and I was pissed.

Oddly enough I wish woot would allow deals that benefited users using referrals but I understand it negates the true value of the deals. (Specifically I am thinking DirectTV, it benefits both sides,)

by the way upvote away the mods fixed the link

Sooooooo, back to the question at hand....

vote-for3vote-against

@thunderthighs: Ummmm I believe the answer to the original question is No. However, they do 'own' a similar "you must be a member to see anything" site, MYHABIT. Though, you can sign in w/your Amazon login.

vote-for2vote-against

@gmwhit: Good call. Yet another reason it's unlikely they're affiliated. I mean, seriously, why would Amazon compete with themselves more than they already are? (cough flashlights cough)

vote-for3vote-against

@thunderthighs: is one heck of an engineer to get this thread back on track.

vote-for1vote-against

@caffeine_dude: It's ok. Apology accepted.

Of course I understand. However, may I suggest that next time you use less accusatory language instead? I like this place, and as @psaux has observed, I am beyond a good member for a long time. I have helped a lot of members and some have even met me in person.

Thanks for pointing out the weird code, I didn't notice since I clicked on the same link it just took me back to the page I captured above.

@lll0228: Pals (you should have seen my unedited version) I was PO'ed
@chellemonkey: But he does not seem to be enjoying himself.
