Any ideas for a door (open/close) counter?
I have a project in which I need to count how many times a cabinet door is opened ... and while right now, my idea is a pedometer taped to the door (which will register a count when shaked), I'm hoping for something more mechanical in nature instead of electrical.
Any ideas of a mechanical counter that could be used instead for something like this?
Here are the 1st choices on Amazon, out of 1,249 hits on "mechanical counter".
The second one looks like it might adapt to your needs easily by attaching a stiff wire or rod from the door to the arm on the counter.
Your choice of counters should also hinge(pun intended) on whether the door is a flush mount or recessed mount.
from bill's link, here's an Instructable that looks cool: http://www.instructables.com/id/Versatile-and-Low-Cost-Digital-Counter
basically it says get a contact reed switch and track the counts of contacts
@tbgolladay: Brilliant! The tally counter looks to be perfect; door close, push the tab. Door open, pops back up for next time.
Thanks!
@psaux: So my idea of taping a pencil and piece of paper to the cabinet is right out? :)
