I ordered an Acer Iconia from BestBuy earlier today ($229 + tax = $248.75) and did store pickup to get a $10 giftcard (and slightly lower tax rate).

I'm not sure if I'm going to keep the Iconia or give it to one of my daughters.

if you need a camera .... the kindle fire lacks one ... they do come in handy for taking a shot of "lecture boards" rather than trying to write it all down

My daughter and I both have the Acer Iconia a500 10.1 inch. If you want kindle, you can download the kindle reader. And the nook reader. And google books. The camera takes amazing photos. My daughter dissected a squid in class, and used the camera to take photos through the microscope, and they came out perfectly. She can't live without hers at school, because it weighs so much less than her laptop, and she has a huge campus to walk across every day. I help a friend with real estate, and I use mine to take photos of houses. I could use my professional camera, but I like the wider angle lens on the Iconia. He was amazed at how great the photos are.

The kindle is an android, but it has a wrap-around operating system, that limits your android capability, and won't allow you to use all the apps. The Iconia doesn't have that issue. Plus, there is the huge advantage of the larger screen.

I did a lot of research before I decided on the Iconia, and it is definitely worth every extra penny.

I bought my husband the Acer 7" tablet for Christmas. Someone at work purchased the Kindle Fire when it first came out. Someone else has the Acer 10". He loves his Acer but I wanted the smaller form factor, like the Fire. I was a day away from buying the Fire when I realized how limiting it is with only being able to use Kindle books and Amazon apps. On the Acer you can go into the settings and changer it to allow outside downloads then add the Amazon app store. This way you still get your free app of the day. My husband loves his Acer and users it every day.
