Do you have any cell phone with a data plan. Because you can use that to stream internet radio, doesn't have to be an iPhone or Droid. The problem is you are going to have to get that internet access one way or another.

@jazcat: I don't have data plan with my current phone and don't plan to upgrade until March.

Maybe check this out : https://store.slacker.com/store/Front.do

The portable player is currently sold out but maybe it'll come back soon.

Look around, you can buy these other places (since the site is out of stock) but they won't be preloaded with your stations.

I am really close to buying one, but going to look around at what else is out there first

I believe the Slacker portable device is gone forever - they found that making apps was more profitable. For a while they were actually giving away Blackberry Curves (the old 83xx models) if you signed up through them (2 yr contract with whatever carrier of course required).

@dcalotta: But the portable devices are still supported right?

@stewy0327: Yes, I believe so. But be forewarned, they are not internet connected devices. They aren't actually streaming when you're out. They download X number of songs (and ads) and create a station on the go. So I doubt that it would work for your desires. I think a smartphone is the way to go.

[edit] To clarify, they do not have cellular (read: anywhere) internet access. I believe they have wifi, but that likely won't do you any good in the car.
