I've used float tubes myself, all of them homemade. A simple truck tire, followed by a "spider-web" type of weave on the inside, and you're in business for less than $20.
That said, this thing is like a 2010 Cadillac, while mine was the Model-T.
Mine was somewhat comfortable, but this would be VERY nice to sit in for a long time. The pockets and pouches are a welcome addition, and the easy-in, easy-out is likewise very nice.
If you're cheap like me, and only use this in summer, you won't need waders. But if you want to use it in cooler or cold waters, a good pair of neoprene waders or a wetsuit are vital.
You will need swim fins, as you cannot mount a motor on this.
If you choose waders, go with "stocking foot" and buy a pair of dive booties from your local scuba shop. That way, you can use generic diving fins. If you get boot-foot waders, you'll have to get special fins, or those ridiculous "duck fin" contraptions.
This fishing method is VERY quiet. You'll appreciate it.
@jixiar: nice blog
@pinchecat: Nice joke :-)
I have no legitimate use for this thing...but for some reason I want it.
This is very nice. Will need some fins though as you can navigate with out them
Sigh...one day I'll be able to go fly fishing again...damn nice to see a fly fishing deal on here though - please keep it up!
These are very popular in Australia right now.
@jixiar: CAN'T put a motor on it? Don't taunt redneck ingenuity... ;)
I live in NE in the snow belt. I use mine as an entertainment chair, sex chair, and snow tube during colder months.
(TIP) Cover zippers with sheet or towel during sex...they leave terrible marks on her face.
No cup holder?
If it pushes you over the edge, I've got a stripped-down version of this going for $52 + shipping, the Teton. I'll put it up.
Is there a place for my XM radio to plug in on this?
@bensonm your right, Ill tear off the trolling motor off a boat in my back yard, get a 12v battery and were good. I think its better the 100hp yamaha outboard stay on the un sea worth boat.
