These things are a lot of fun to fly and once you get the hang of it. A word of warning - they get carried very easily by wind, so turn off ceiling fans and I wouldn't try using it outside. It also has a fairly short battery life (mine gets ~10 mins of flying time before needing a total charge) but it's well worth it. If you like RC cars and such, you'll absolutely love these.

It's hard to say if these are better or worse than the syma. Apparently They're just rebranded choppers but I don't really know 100%. This is a great buy but for ~5 dollars more you can get the "original" choppers at amazon.

I bought 3 of these 6 months ago and they were great. These are IR choppers so they won't fly outside. Indoors only. They're great choppers and a lot of fun and really take a beating.

On one Amazon review, 4 persons gave this 1 star. Why take a chance?
You can buy a real Syma S107 for a buck or 2 more.

vote-for9vote-against

@artlouis: agree, and I see them for $0.40 more on Amazon, not even a buck or two.

vote-for5vote-against

The syma versions of these are awesome. Can't speak for these, but they're probably ok too.

vote-for6vote-against

How can they leagaly put "radio controlled" in the description when these are clearly IR controlled, there IS a difference. What a disappointment!

vote-for14vote-against

Why does the features section reference RADIO control and then it says an IR transmitter is included. That is very misleading since radio is much better than Infrared

vote-for4vote-against

@redscot68: @gamorten: I am pretty sure the author got confused and thought RC meant radio controlled when it just means remote controlled :-/

vote-for10vote-against

You know, they mean the "other" RADIO.
Radically Antennaless Direct Infrared Operation.

vote-for4vote-against

@redscot68: Well when u are doing the discovery for word court let me know so i can get in on the class action

vote-for4vote-against

Um, Amazon has the (identical?) Syma version for LESS, counting free super-saver shipping, AND you get to pick the color.

I have the Syma. It was awesome until I crashed it 100 times (so it is harder to fly) and shipped it cross-country during winter (killing the battery). For $20, it's great for older kids and adults, though the flight time is only ~6 minutes.

vote-for6vote-against

Yep, cheaper on Amazon if you have Prime. Not seeing the deal here.

vote-for3vote-against

@tanookisuit You must really suck at flying cause the syma are the easiest out of any chopper out there to fly. I own two of the military versions (the apache and the cobra) and my buddies own the official version of these and they could be flown by a third grader, unless youre a third grader.... lol

vote-for3vote-against

@redscot68: RC apparently means Remote Control these days. ;-)

vote-for3vote-against

Bought one of these the last time they were on woot & I love it!

vote-for3vote-against

Woot.... its cheaper on Amazon (URL - http://amzn.to/IeV9A8 ) if you have prime, or if you add $5 more dollars to your order. You can pick your own color over there too. Hell they will even gift wrap it for you.

vote-for3vote-against

Stay away from 3 channel coax Infrared crap. Get a V911 for 20 bucks more. You won't get bored of it in a weekened and will be able to fly it outside in calm conditions.

My blog on the V911:

If anyone cares, you can charge the helicopter from the remote unit (it has a built-in plug) or by using the included usb cable to connect it to a PC or the like.

vote-for3vote-against

Whatever you do, if youre thinking of getting a Syma on Amazon, don't buy the SO22 Chinook. I bought one about a month ago and it did fine for the first few flights and then it was useless. I ended up taking advNtage of Amazon's great return policy. However these particular "style" of choppers work great and I highly recommend them.

I bought three last time these were wooted. One for my son and two for Bday party gifts for his friends. If you are just looking for a fun toy, or your kid is, ignore the elitists here, they have a different agenda. My kid is five, he loves this thing. No, he doesn't have the dexterity to really control it well, it really takes some finesse to steer it. He loves to crash it though, and fly it into stuff, and it has held up surprisingly well. And at this price I don't worry too much.

We have had to pinch a few props from the other boxes though, they do break after a while, that's why they supply spares.

When he is good at flying these, we'll move on to true RC, and yes, I know, there will be a new learning curve there, blah blah.

vote-for1vote-against

I have one of the original Syma helicopters, and they are exactly the same as the ones being sold here. The cables, remote, everything about the chopper. They are a ton of fun. The only reason I bought another is because I crashed mine into my kids bed, and the gyro stopped working ever since. Other than that, it was pretty much indestructible, and my children thoroughly enjoy it.

vote-for2vote-against

I bought 2 of these the last time kids.woot.com was selling them... not really sure if it was the Phantom or not.. it's the S107 and they fly awesome! It's IR, looks identical. I've flown other micro heli's and they don't compare. I've had so much fun with my s107, I recently purchased an s033g gigantic version... the wind affects that one a lot, since you're flying it outside... but it's still a hoot! The S107 is pretty much bulletproof... I've flown with half a rotor missing. In a couple months of abuse, I've used both spare rotors and it's still flying great with some chips out of them. I've dropped it accidentally into soaking pots, twice! Shook it out, let it sit for a couple hours, then flew it without issue.

vote-for4vote-against

The Syma 107G are really great. You can get them for 20 bucks 2 day shipped if you got Amazon Prime. They are seriously a great RC chopper to learn on. With 3 Axis you can get a fun flying experience from the comfort of your couch. Don't think about it, go buy the legit Syma 107G, you will not regret it.

vote-for2vote-against

Not much of a deal. These are around $20 all day long on Amazon and by a brand we can trust "Syma."

I have owned 4 different Syma choppers...
In my opinion, this is a fake S107 Syma and should be priced accordingly. This chopper should not be the same price as the product it's copying.

vote-for0vote-against

you idiots know this, and the SYMA everyone says is better, are the EXACT SAME HELICOPTER assembled by the same little chinese 8 yr old for your pleasure...

vote-for2vote-against

I've had real Symas, and fake Symas. Real or fake, they all fly great! Identical boxes, but a few subtle differences in the helicopters themselves. The biggest difference, and probably the most important, is that the polarity is reversed on the fakes and the charging cables, motors, and circuit boards are not compatible between the two. Also, you can't get spare parts for the fakes; they are readily available for the real ones.

vote-for2vote-against

It's an awesome heli, but this is not a good deal. The Syma S107 is going for $21.12 on Amazon WITH shipping (with Amazon Prime, otherwise get your order total above $25 for free shipping). That's a $4 savings. Why are people voting this deal up?

vote-for2vote-against

I have a real Syma and they are great. For the price difference I'd stick to the real deal.

vote-for3vote-against

These mini helicopters have really taken off...usually, the price hovers around $30.

vote-for2vote-against

I have the Syma and have really enjoyed it. Reading up about it before ordering, I saw someone post -- and I agree with this -- if it were any easier to fly, you'd lose interest in it too quickly.

I found this site offers information and very reasonably priced replacement parts: XHeli.com

Dunno if they'd have info on this knock-off, but if you do the wise thing and get a Syma instead, that's a useful resource to know about.

vote-for2vote-against

I have one and my only complaint is that mine doesn't hold up to hitting ceilings well. Hitting the ceiling pushes the top rotor, which puts higher loading on the little gears, which pushed one of the small motors up and out of alignment. There's a tiny tab built into the metal frame that's supposed to keep the motor in place, and that tab bends every time it hits the ceiling. Easy fix, but eventually the tab will wear out and break, and then I'll need to do an actual fix.

vote-for1vote-against

Mine only chargers off the controller, and that is a huge battery issue. Talked with customer service and all they said was "sometimes USB works and sometimes is does not" - great customer service. You get what you pay for!

vote-for1vote-against

Can I use two Phantom S107 GYRO at the same time?

vote-for1vote-against

This is not "like" the Syma, it is the Syma, just rebranded. I've owned a Syma S107 in the past, and from what I can see in the photos, this is the exact same thing.

Mine was great fun, especially for $25, until the battery wouldn't hold a charge anymore. I think I got a good 3 months use out of mine before it was no longer functional. I was too cheap to replace the battery on a $25 helicopter, though, and started looking at more expensive 4-channel helicopters.

I kind of wish this was an actual deal. You can get one of these on Amazon for $25 shipped, sooo, where's the deal, Woot?

vote-for1vote-against

@bvic01: It's not so easy to fly once your friend damages it. When it is brand new, I'm sure it is the easiest to fly.

vote-for1vote-against

I just got one of these a couple of weeks ago and I cannot get it to work with my Droid Razer for nothing so be very careful before you waste your money.

I installed the I-Helicopter software for the Droid and again does not work for nothing

vote-for1vote-against

Infrared and all others are 'radio waves' so, technically, it is not misleading.

vote-for1vote-against

Won't let you choose the color. Ordered 2, assuming they would be different colors. Nope. Received 2 blue ones. Duh!

vote-for1vote-against

Mine broke the first day I had it.... I flew it maybe 4 times. Didn't even sustain any serious crashes. The motor for the tail rotor burned out so it won't go forward or backward anymore, just ascend and descend. Which really kind of takes the fun out of it...

vote-for1vote-against

This is a Symo-built 100% Symo S107G clone no doubt ... and not a good deal!! You can get the identical Symo original on amazon for a total of $20 incl. shpping !! You need to try harder Woot !!

vote-for1vote-against

Battery expanded When I tried to charge it. Didn't even get to fly it :(

vote-for1vote-against

Ordered one of these, and it came in with out a charging port on the helicopter! Nothing inside the frame where it should be, and a blank spot on the circuit board! I called Worldtech Toys and was forced to leave a voice mail for their customer support department, but haven't heard anything back yet....

vote-for1vote-against

Okay for fun, but you can't really fly it outside. Next time I will read the fine print a little more closely.
