I've always had success with Roku. I actually just ordered this once I saw it. the 90 day warranty should be more than sufficient to see if any problems happen with factory refurbs. But, personally, i've NEVER had any problem with any sort of factory refurb.

@katanaryda: Your unsubstantiated post=garbage

vote-for17vote-against

Wow, good price. I ordered one of these 2 weeks ago when they were 59.99 from the same site. Either way, never had a problem with my 1st Roku which was brand new, hopefully my refurb will be the same way :).

vote-for10vote-against

Funny, my 1st generation refurbished rokus work wonderfully... and this is a phenomenal deal on the top of the line model.
In fact everyone I know who owns one (friends, family, coworkers) loves theirs too.
Something tells me you've never even used one.

vote-for8vote-against

Roku's are sweet. Not all models are created equal. Check Wikipedia. I got one a 1st gen from Woot. It was the only one that wasn't sold out at the time. It didn't have a lot of RAM but performs fine and has an Ehternet port. Unfortunately only the top of the line has that on Gen2. Anyway 1saleADay take forever to ship. Be warned. I'm still wating on an order from Turkeyday

vote-for8vote-against

@miquinn: It seems your prediction was actually very generous!

vote-for7vote-against

A week ago, I bought a Roku HD (nasic low end model) for $40. I thought that was a good deal. $10 more and you get more features and 1080p.

I read in Roku forums that Roku is coming up with next generation models, so that is why these current models are cheaper.

vote-for7vote-against

Long-time owner of about a dozen Roku's, from the very first one they sold to the most contemporary units, and I have nothing but orchids for them - their product is solidly built, provides good value and a great feature set for the investment, and their support after service is absolutely stellar! I don't see how someone could go wrong with a purchase of a Roku!

vote-for7vote-against

Well shucks. Now I'm bummed I ordered this last time around, for $10 more. (It shipped faster than usual for 1saleaday, and got here today.)

vote-for6vote-against

This is a great deal. They had the Roku 2 XD for the same price last month and I thought that was a steal, but this one is the top of the line.

vote-for6vote-against

I like mine. This little device is a whole lot of awesome. Especially when you sign up for free trials to some of the pay services. Bought it during a Black Friday online sale and now I wish I would have waited. Could have saved more monies. smh Oh well, that's what I get for having the "I NEED that" disease. :P

vote-for6vote-against

I have the XS, HD and 2 SD. They all work great. I have never had a problem except once in maybe a month I have to unplug and reboot it. They seem to get "full" and slow so I just reboot and they are good to go. We just love them, even more now that we have fiber optic internet.

vote-for5vote-against

@katanaryda: oh boy. let the downvotes roll in.
miquinn's prediction: -29, +2

Cast your predictions in fast, while the comment's still hot!

[edit] let it be known that I am not voting either way.

vote-for5vote-against

My refurb Roku 1st gen works flawlessly, as well.

vote-for5vote-against

Well, Thumper, think of that $10 as rental. Did you get $10 of enjoyment out of the Roku in that month? I have two of these and an LT I got for free when signing up for a lifetime subscription to Playon (@$70, this is the best deal on a Roku or Playon).

Roku is a decent streaming media player (Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, Hulu Plus, Crackle, VUDU, and HBO GO) with other less interesting channels. The XS has a usb port so you can watch media off an attached usb disk. Some models play android-ish games. The XS comes with Angry Birds and a game remote. Cable cutters can watch clips of vable shows or CNBC live. For the most part, the 'other' channels affregate video clips from web sites for presentation on your TV.

If you are thinking about getting one of these, check out their channel store. Check out playon.tv too. The best channel on the Roku is Playon.

I prefer the SMP-N200 to this box, but I am not unhappy with my three Rokus.

I own two of these, one of which is the red limited edition version and I paid about 80 bucks for each so at half that almost this is a fantastic deal. The roku is great....and the roku remote apps out there are also handy as heck.

I use mine all the time and have never had one problem with either one of them.

vote-for4vote-against

funny I bought three of these back in august from the same site for i think 59 I just sold two of them on ebay for 75 dollars LOL

vote-for4vote-against

STILL waiting on these clowns to ship something I bought back on November 11th. Hope you aren't' buying these for Christmas presents!

vote-for4vote-against

Better/faster than Logitech Revue?

vote-for4vote-against

I believe the previous sale for $59.99 included an HDMI cable?

vote-for4vote-against

Got one from them earlier. Works very well. MUCH faster than the first gen models (I have a 1st gen XD as well and was also a refurb that still works.) Highly recommend it. Plenty of streaming apps out there to keep you entertained.

vote-for4vote-against

11/7 ordered roku 2 xs from 1saleaday for $59.99.
11/23 "We found out today that we sent you the Roku XD instead of the Roku XS on the order you recently purchased." This felt like a bait and switch since I had the option to keep the xd.
11/29 received a return shipping label.
12/5 still waiting for what I actually ordered.

vote-for4vote-against

Wow, perfect timing. I was just looking yesterday at upgrading from my 1st gen Roku because only the 2nd gen supports Vudu, as well as cross-channel search, but was frustrated that only the XS has an Ethernet port.

vote-for4vote-against

Had some problems with a refurb Roku. Didn't ask for an account setup but wouldn't do some things, wouldn't boot after the first day. Factory reset fixed everything. Its worked flawlessly for about 6 months now.

vote-for4vote-against

I have wanted a second ROKU! looks like this is it.

vote-for4vote-against

I was just looking at these, in the last couple of weeks, for Netflix purposes. I did notice the warranty on this, is the same 90 days, as a new one.

vote-for4vote-against

I have this Roku and it's fantastic. The boss [at home] she LOVES it for Netflix/Crackle in the bedroom. The remote is RF and doesn't require line of sight, which lets you hide this little guy anywhere you can get a signal [in a drawer, under the bed, duct taped to the back of the TV you hope to replace this month etc]

Love you, Roku.

vote-for3vote-against

Does it stream video or music from a PC or must you use the USB?

vote-for3vote-against

I use Roconnect to stream video from my PC. need to convert it to mp4 or mkv though. Pretty simple once you get it working(im an it guy so its easy for me). You can use pandora and netflix as well.

vote-for3vote-against

I bought an original Roku for my folks who wanted something to stream Netflix for themselves and grandkids. It was beyond simple to set up (though typing in a complex Wi-Fi password with directional buttons was sort of a pain) and very easy for them to use.

I'm going to grab one for myself - while I get Netflix on both my TV and Blu-Ray, the Playon and access to HBOGo (on something other than my PC or laptop) has me intrigued. And if I don't like it, I can always upgrade my folk's unit.

Win-win at this price.

vote-for3vote-against

BOOOOOM in for one. All I want to do is be able to watch HBO Go on my TV. I'll never understand why I can't get the full catalog through VOD.

Have to get caught up on Treme

vote-for3vote-against

Get the Roku app for iOS (not sure if available on Android) -- has the same functionality as the included remote (for when you invariably misplace it), as well as keyboard searching and fast channel switching. Made my Roku experience tenfold better.

vote-for3vote-against

@katanaryda: I love my Roku as well, but that's not to say that you didn't experience problems with yours. But at least you can take comfort that your bad experience was probably just bad luck since so many other people are satisfied. Maybe you got that rare defective one?

vote-for2vote-against

@publicart: oh. my.
actually, that comment was pretty terrible, it actually did just earn my downvote

vote-for2vote-against

@avg1joe: I purchased one at the same time. They actually blamed Roku for shipping the wrong item to customers. Apparently they were drop-shipped from Roku. Very difficult to contact customer service.

vote-for2vote-against

EXCELLENT. I've had Rokus since first gen and LOVE them.

Hulu often baffles the oldest Roku I have, so what a great opportunity to upgrade. Thanks for posting!

vote-for2vote-against

I'm in for 1.
Hoping their shipping and customer service isn't as bad as some of you guys have mentioned. :-\
It's not a christmas gift, so speed isn't super important, but I'd like to have it before 2013!

vote-for2vote-against

@avg1joe: I'm in the exact same boat! I won't complain since I'm not in a hurry for it and I get a 10 dollar credit and a free HDMI cable.

vote-for2vote-against

I ordered this from onesaleaday about one month ago for $59.00. It took 16 days to arrive. It was easy to set up and I really like it much more than the Boxee I used for several years.

One problem I am having despite reading the forum, etc. is setting up the Plex server for the Roku. Anyone able to get that working for this?

vote-for2vote-against

@avg1joe: actually, it was dailysteals. i fell for it, too, but ended up keeping the xd. why not? $20 credit and $10 to spend at dailysteals tells me it was a genuine error. Besides, it looks like all these xs's are the ones that were meant to go to dailysteals. Either way, great deal on a great product, refurb or no.

vote-for2vote-against

In for 1. I will probably sell it on ebay looks make I make 30 bucks on the exchange but in all truth I will probably end up keeping it. :-)

vote-for2vote-against

@whyteboar: I recommend Plex for streaming video. Music streaming is basic but OK. Plex also has a plug-ins of its own so you can add a lot of content that there isn't a Roku channel for.

vote-for1vote-against

I bought the Roku 2 XS on 11/21 fron 1saleaday it arrived last week. The only problem I had was the remote wasn't linked up to the player, but a quick reboot of the player while the remote was in pairing mode fixed that quickly. It's my first Roku and I love it.

vote-for1vote-against

@katanaryda: -121 and counting...is there some type of down vote record for Woot?

vote-for1vote-against

it's like the internet knew what i wanted when i woke up this morning! in 4 1!

vote-for1vote-against

@thomasr: Yep...it is in the original post.

vote-for1vote-against

@tristicus: NEVER badmouth this or the Sansa Clip....

vote-for1vote-against

Can someone help me, what are the advantages (if any) of a Roku over doing netflix or other apps on my wii?

vote-for1vote-against

@dpj002: The picture quality is clearer and the interface is smoother than the wii.
