Intel 520 Series Cherryville SSDSC2CW480A310 2.5" 480GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive… for $499.99
This is a very fast drive and high quality. Note that this is the bare drive. They also offer the retail package with extras for $519. The price was $300 higher yesterday. The only downside to this drive is a slightly slow 4K random write which is typical of most large SSD's and should only affect the most critical server applications. I hope.
When did Intel start using Sandforce controllers?
And more to the point, is this like other Sandforce based SSDs in that when presented with files that are already compressed (like video files), the speed rating for both read and write drops to half that claimed?
And lastly, Intel has a terrific reputation for reliability, whereas Sandforce not so much (to be charitable). What on earth made Intel go with Sandforce?
With comparable speed, proven reliability and better price per GB, you're much better off picking up a 512GB Cruical M4 for $100 less: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148444
