To anyone wondering whether the iPad 2 still makes sense, I'm still using a 16GB wifi with cellular radio model and it works great, still feels snappy. I believe but am not 100% sure that iOS 7 will be compatible on it.

And since it does not have the retina display (doesn't need the bigger battery), it is actually thinner & lighter than the latest gen iPad.

@bluemaple: I've been running ios 7 beta on my ipad 2 for several months with almost no issue.

$200 cheaper than the same refurbished model on apple.com. One on the way to me as we speak. Kindle Fire may be cheaper, but this will run all of my iphone apps, so I will actually come out ahead.

Thanks for posting! Just got one.

I've had mixed results with Cowboom on several purchases in the past. But I figured if it doesn't work out and I have to return it within 2 weeks and just pay for return shipping, it's worth the risk to get a good deal.

@diemlinh7: They actually pay return shipping as well if there is an issue. Simply click the RMA button next to the item. It generates a UPS label for you. Just pack and ship.

Had a few issues with Cowboom (AKA BestBuy's discount outlet) a few years ago with swapped merchandise and missing parts. No matter how tempting the offer, I'm snakebit on these guys and refuse to deal with them. If this works for you guys, please come back and post after you've received your merchandise. I'd like to know if Cowboom's merchandise and service have actually improved.

For comparison sake, a used or refurbished Nexus 10 with a faster CPU, 4x the RAM, and more than double the resolution (1024x768 vs 2560×1600) goes for the same price (although it has 1/2 of the on-board storage but does has a micro-sd reader and a 32GB micro sdhc card is <$20) The Nexus 10 also has micro-hdmi (and similar streaming technologies as the ipad).

If you like Apple or are familiar with IOS and the apps, then get what is comfortable and familiar. Ease of use is more important than hardware specs for this type of device IMHO. Not a bad deal, but still too expensive for me given the wealth of alternative options for the same price point.

There are also apps that allow you to use your tablet (ipad or android) as an additional monitor. This was what justified a tablet to me (rather than think of as just a toy). I used to get frustrated when mobile with my laptop and did not have a second monitor like at home. 10" tablets are a bit easier to use for this than the smaller ones.

I have purchased several items from cowboom. You just need to pay attention to the description and condition of the item. Some great deals if you know what it is and aren't worried about stuff like tech support or scratches.  2 of the laptops I got did not have the OS but I had a copy and it took some time to install and get updates. Probably not for your average user.
