I have three of these. They don't produce as many sparks as top-dollar swedish firesteel, but they work once you get the scraping angle right. If you're taking these camping/hiking as insurance - remember to carry some vaseline soaked cotton balls in a ziplock baggie or pill bottle since nothing lights better with this flint. Naturally, also carry a lighter (the cheap kind in grocery store checkout lanes - transparent so you can keep an eye on the fluid level).

I've gotten a few of these also and they work really well. At first they don't spark much but once you get a decent groove going, it's quite incredible how much they spark. I can get a dry napkin to go up in flames with it. (takes about 20-50 tries, but still, that's impressive)

Works only for the single item--if you want 2, though, you can get 2 and the discount applies to each.

The deals still alive. Good for the 1st 700 buyers. I got one of these a month ago and it is definitely a steal at $1.49 + free shipping. Cheers!

I have gotten 2 of these so far and this will be my third. They work really well and are definitely a deal compared to the 5 or 6 dollar ones at Walmart or Bimart. After getting a decent striking area worn down one strike is sufficient to light a ball of dryer lint.

Why not just buy a couple torch lighters? I've never got the point of these things.

Torch lighters eat butane like candy and can easily break. I certainly wouldn’t put all my eggs in one basket while out in the woods and only carry a lighter. These are durable and make great backups. Even if it somehow broke you could still use and they spark when wet.

I keep one next to my grill to light the grill and the tiki torches. Works great and I don’t have to worry about a lighter (not that it’s a big worry but you know...)

I love these things. I have four already. I think I'll pick up another.

It's now $3.99 each +shipping. I guess it's been 700 customers. Still a pretty good deal though.

i hope this comes with a built-in GPS and cellphone. that's the only way i'm surviving in the wild!

Still live with the coupon code! Been wanting one of these for a while.

Has anyone been able to light cigarettes with one of these?

These spark like crazy, it's all about the angle of the scrape.

No chipping, or sawing, you hold the beveled serrated edge of the steel flat against the side of the flint near where you're holding it, and scrape downwards briskly while pushing onto it hard.

And yes, that's what she said, I know.

a butane lighter is not:

* 100% water proof
* unbreakable
* windproof
* able to provide years worth of dependable service

Relying on a butane lighter when you are hiking and camping is like relying on your cell phone's GPS to keep you from getting lost; not the best idea.
