Said so in description...

Indeed you did, just pointing it out. I have seen (but can not find at the moment) new units for under $60.

@baddoght: Well, a refurb unit is almost indistinguishable from a new unit, and anything that went wrong was fixed, so I see it as a decent investment. I have a Samsung refurb digi cam and it looks/acts no different than a new one at double the price.

Don't make me pull this car over.

next lowest price on google shopping for a refurb is $72.99 off ebay. Good price, just not so hot on the unit itself.

I got one to stream content to my kids play room.

@sockerdood: well i got tricked too with the netflix playback. the WD TV Live Plus plays Netflix... this one is just WD TV Live HD Media player.

Oh well, not like i watch tons of Netflix instantly viewable anyways. Bought one to replace old laptop connected to TV.
As long as it can play videos from USB drive, youtube videos from playlists, and connect to network laptop videos, I'm fine with it.

$54 total is i guess a low risk buy imo.

This thing cannot play netflix.
It can play youtube and pandora though.

Also it plays UPNP media server and network shares.

Or get the WDTV Live Plus for $54, and be able to stream Netflix. Enter the Coupon Code: DealTaker5 for $5 off.

@ furtchet- How do you get the Live Plus? I don't see where you can select another model...

vote-for2vote-against

@furtchet: can you please provide a link for the WDTV Live plus deal for 54$? thanks!

vote-for2vote-against

With this model you can replace the BIOS and have it do Bittorrent and lot of other things(It runs linux out of the box, but you can replace it with a much more feature rich version...
The Live Plus cannot be upgraded from what I have been told...
You can get the little AirLink 101 wireless N 150 adapter for under $20($14.99 or $16.99...They have it listed two places???) from meritline.com and it works great. You can also put a USB hub on it so you can plug a lot of drives into it.
You can also stream protected content off of the internet through your computer to the WDTV Live with some third party software.

@sockerdood: Unfortunately I think it is only the "Plus" model that has Netflix otherwise this would have been an Epic win!

I bought one of these at least 6 months ago and it hasn't given me a problem at all. I even dropped the WDXTV firmware on there and it looks REALLY nice with the new SHEETS feature.

Bought a refurb one 3-4 months ago and it was fine until just last week when it started showing an oversaturated green screen, making video unwatchable. Replaced cable, tried different videos, different monitor, so I know it's the box. It was relatively cheap so it doesn't hurt too much.

Sorry I meant to put the link on here http://www.cowboom.com/store/productDetails.cfm?contentID=717561
WD TV Live Plus for $54
and use the code DealTaker5 to get $5 off
I was in a hurry I was late for work and wanted to tell you all about this.

I had the NON-networking version of this and was happpy withit. I upgraded to a Kodak model which had wireless networking, but only streamed video from a computer that had special software running on it, and wouldn't recognize my network server (which is where all my media files are!) Piece of crap. I would have grabbed one of these if I had the extra cash...

vote-for1vote-against

@furtchet: I was about to order that from Cowboom but I noticed the manufacturer part number listed is NOT the Live Plus model, simply the WDTV HD Gen2 player that does not have networking features. I have contacted Cowboom support and they are checking to see which model is actually being sold. I would hold off ordering until they get this cleared up. I don't want to order and be stuck with the non-network model when I want networking.

@fuzi719: OOOOO!!!Good to know, mine will be here on Monday. I hope it is the networkable one, otherwise I will be talking to their costumer service.

The WD TV Live Plus just came in the mail today from cowboom, and it is the Live Plus version! :)

So whats the deal with this 1saleaday.com? I ordered mine on 16th and after 4 business days it still says Awaiting Shipment.

When do they usually ship the purchase by? Their customer support is only via email and they don't reply back at all. Pretty frustrating at this point. Hope they sent it already!!
