A Retrospective: Pink Martini: Music for $13.54
I was watching Sunday Morning on CBS, and they did a piece on this "little orchestra" (they describe themselves that way). It's not often I'm impressed with music, but their eclectic and joyful approach is just a delight. This album, cleverly titled "Retrospective" is just that.
From Amazon:
Pink Martini are a 14-piece band formed in Portland, Oregon in 1994 by Thomas M. Lauderdale. The group incorporates a number of different styles into their music including lounge, classical and jazz.
The debut album Sympathique, released in 1997, is a mix of original works and covers of classics, such as "Que Sera Sera". The album has gone on to sell over three quarters of a million copies. The follow-up Hang On Little Tomato contains more original works and was popular through-out Europe.
The band can be heard on the films Nurse Betty, Mr and Mrs Smith and Tortilla Soup.
