For those outside the know, this game is currently only $39.99 as a direct download.

Its actually worth $0 since the game is about to undergo complete PC death in honor of the PS3 version.

wow, reviews are a mixed bag

looked at some more "professional" reviews... not great.

Think I'll just wait until summer when it's $10-15, or by another means

@rockmasterflex69: Does the PS3 have mouse capability. The only way to play D3 is with a mouse.

The initial Diablo 3 release was abysmal, and since they've fired the guy who created the problem and are starting to rectify the situation. The next patch, 1.09 promises a total item revitalization so there's less reliance on the auction house and when you get an item, you won't have worthless stats roll on it. I'm playing now for paragon levels alone, and while all the drops still suck, I've been getting A LOT of legendary drops, two in one mob just a half hour ago. I think I've had 5 all evening. So, the future is bright in my opinion for Diablo 3 if the new people in charge get their way, and I imagine they will, and it's "going" to be worth it come the 1.09 patch.

@mix: The only way to "rectify the situation" would be to eliminate completely the auction house and the online requirement for single player (you know... like in Diablo 2). The AH and blatant monetization ruined the game, imho, and many huge fans of the series (like myself) refused to be treated like open wallets and refused to buy it. I wouldn't play if it was free.

Having played D1 and been horribly addicted to D2 for years and years, I was beyond disappointed in D3. Such a disaster in a game anticipated by millions for so many years. Biggest flop and let down in gaming history. I bought D3 when it came out and it was seriously a complete waste of money. I don't know what changes they've made in the last 8 months, but unless they basically redid they entire game I'd advise to steer clear of this "deal."

The development team behind Diablo 2 went on to make Torchlight 2, not Diablo 3. If you're looking for a great game, get Torchlight 2. If you're looking for a decent playthrough, get Diablo 3. The auction house ruined the game, true, but only until higher difficulties do you really start to notice. I put in over 170 hours into D3, then never turned it on again. Torchlight 2 is my go-to now... way better game.

Absolutely AWFUL game.
Where to start... the fact that EVERY beta tester complained about the piddling-weak difficulty, only to be fended away with 'only the first act' over and over... only to have the SAME super-casual iDrone-level 'difficulty' throughout the entire game? For a series that was known for being HARD, to appeal to the moronic faux-gamers of today?
Or the always-online requirement that EVERYONE complained about?
The real-money AH selling power?

Ridiculous. STAY AWAY. Buy Torchlight 2 instead, and actually have some fun. This release was a worse mismanagement than Vista, ME and Windows 8 all rolled together. A disaster that they keep slapping happy-face stickers on, when the game is already LONG-dead (within two weeks of release). George Lucas would have been hard-pressed to screw this up any worse.

Put me down as another long time Diablo fan who felt smacked in the face by this game and Blizzard in general. I purchased this game for $50 as a pre-order (and I NEVER pre-order games mind you) because I was so excited about it coming out. Worst money I ever spent. As someone who wants to play the game as a single-player campaign, I simply could NOT do so. On the off chance that their servers were actually working, the inability to save my game when I need to stop playing drove me nuts. Nothing kills fun like having to constantly backtrack and re-do things you've already done because of a lousy checkpoint system. Never again, Blizzard.

I was one of the BETA testers. Gameplay-wise, game is IDENTICAL to D2. All the haters have valid reasons to hate, but at the same time are over-exaggerating. It is still a good game at its core.

I won the game from Gamesradar and never finished it, but I've played through Torchlight II about 8 times now. I certainly wouldn't pay that much for it.
