Curious how this hasn't made it over to popular...

I suddenly feel very old, but I remember back in the late 1970's, early 1980's Radio Shack was BIG on cheap/free flashlight offers ... with the intent that it would get you to buy their "C" or "D" size batteries for the free (and very cheaply made) flashlight.

But that was back when they asked for your phone number, just to buy some batteries (from a Seinfeld episode which made a joke about that old Radio Shack practice).

I found so many LED flashlight deals (under a dollar) with batteries, that I don't know who would get this free flashlight, then BUY C OR D sized batteries (whatever this offer needs) for a poor, heavy, large and ugly flash light.

My local RadioShack went out of business . . . now I know it was part of an evil plot to forbid me a free flashlight!

"D" batteries not included...

That's how they get ya! :P

If it wasn't come in and buy batteries, it would be $4.99 shipping.
Like they say nothing in life is truly free, not even the candy the people give out on halloween. Those rot your teeth or make you obese. And it cost me $40-50 in candy, because I live in a family neighborhood and I get over 100 kids coming to my house.

turn your lights off and spend nothing. in fact save on electricity. use the money to buy internets. qq moar.

I was really excited because I thought it said "Free Fleshlight"

vote-for3vote-against

Harbor freight has been pretty constant in having coupons out for free led flashlights w/batteries, not sure about online though.

vote-for1vote-against

I bet its a real crappy flashlight too. Probably drains the batteries in mere minutes ;)

@radbeets: Heh! Yeah, I get all my sex toys at Radio Shack!

vote-for2vote-against

Poor Radio Shack. Soon to go the way of the TRS-80.

vote-for1vote-against

"Perfect For Trick-Or-Treaters". Right, I can see little kids trying to lug around a flashlight from the 80's with two "D" batteries; Is Radio Shack stuck there?

vote-for1vote-against

You can never have too many flashlights when the apocalypse is nigh...

Plus @wootnewbee, it's not for the little kids, it's for the big kids to look intimidating with when they're stealing the little kids' haul as they pop out from behind the bushes.

Harbor Freight--free led flashlight every week w/coupon from Sunday paper. Includes batteries too.

i use a 3 cell mag lite so i can lay a beat down to the people who give out apples or tooth brushes.

vote-for1vote-against

takes 2 d batteries and they ask you for an email when they ring you up.

vote-for2vote-against

@radbeets: i literally LOL'd at work... and the worst part is i can't explain why i'm laughing because the fleshlight topic is definitely NSFW.

vote-for1vote-against

@joninla: Works nicely if you got batteries at home lying around.

This seems about as current and relevant as this:

I can't IMAGINE anyone being stupid enough to even want this for free. With LED technology where it is now, this thing is just crap. Might as well wheel a giant generator with work lights on it, around. Even buying a C or D cell mag lite is pretty questionable now. I bet this thing would break immediately if dropped from even a small height. You can get a light that fits in your pocket, uses cheaper AA batteries and is twice as bright. Sure it's more expensive, but I can't imagine 40 D batteries are cheap either. What a joke! It's laughable that Radio Shack would even offer this piece of garbage. Just goes to show how behind the times they are. I bet my dad already went out and redeemed his coupon for this.

I was in my local RS this afternoon and they tried to give me a free flashlight. Guess what? I would have had to give them my e-mail address.
Things never change--back in the 70's Radio Shack wouldn't even take cash unless you gave them your address and phone number. I said "no thanks" to
the free flashlight, which looked like it would have cost 59 cents to manufacture in Bangladesh. The profit in one set of batteries would pay for this crappy light.

vote-for1vote-against

Got mine this morning :D Looks cheap, but I was picking up headphones anyway so no sweat off my back
@snowmanvt They take your Email address so that later when you try to get another one, they will see you already got it.

vote-for1vote-against

@abramokids well that makes a lot of sense, since I only have one email address!

vote-for1vote-against

I picked up mine today. It's orange and black for Halloween! And I happened to have some D batteries lying around, so this is a pretty sweet deal. They didn't ask for my phone number or email. As for everyone badmouthing this deal, well, haters gonna hate. :)

@radbeets: winnar, funniest interwub joke of the week!

vote-for1vote-against

did anyone notice in the ad it states only 24 per store..

vote-for1vote-against

@rill2503456: Its not exactly the most thought out system :P

vote-for1vote-against

Me and my friend went and picked up one today. They death looked us out of the store when we didn't buy anything with it.

vote-for1vote-against

@abramokids:
Tell them your e-mail is abc@123.com

2nd time you go, tell them def@123.com

And so on.

Don't worry, they'll never be the wiser.
They do work at Radio Shack, after all.

"You got questions? We got blank stares."

vote-for3vote-against

whoa whoa whoa, print it out? take it in? in person? I'm far to lazy to do that. if they're not gonna ship it to me for free, I'm not interested. :]

vote-for1vote-against

Geez, are people actually complaining that they don't get Free Batteries with their Free Flashlight?
These guys probably complain they have to spring for Dinner even if they got a date with Jessica Alba. facepalm

vote-for1vote-against

@pendor:
Not a good comparison.

The free flashlights from Rat Shack suck, and always have sucked. (and not in a good way)
They are actually so bad, that buying batteries to use in them is a waste of money.

If you are going to buy batteries to power that crappy flashlight, your money is much better spent on a cheap LED flashlight instead.

vote-for0vote-against

there is a coupon some where on the net for a free LED flashlight from harbor fright and it's totally free(u don't have to pay taxes or anything)and it's not cheaply made and it's a damn good flashlight and bright as hell!
