Spend another $20 and get the newer mybook version with USB 3.0. You'll be happy you got the faster version later. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136749

I own about 8 of these drives and have gathered them over the past 5 years. They are great for storage and not a single drive has ever failed or lost my data. I am now thinking of buying a couple more while the price is this low since I paid $120 for my last drive.

These are good, reliable drives and for anyone who thinks the whole USB 3.0 or bust, yes this will not write the data just as fast but unless if you are filling the entire thing up all in 1 shot, then the slight increase in speed shouldn't' matter too much.

I agree with both crash and decyde. Extra $20 is definately worth the 3.0 esp considering how cheap it is to upgrade to 3.0. Otherwise still a fantastic deal.

I've never had any issues with a Western and ive had a lot of dead drives, not one a Westie.

Why All of those MyBook on NewEgg are 3/5 stars? I guess that those old reviews affect the general quality. Has any one bought a MyBook several months recently? Has any one had it fail? I am currently using the Seagate BackUp Plus standing version. It's a great drive so far but it lacks the little feature that the MyBook has such as automatic light indicator (The BackUp needs the software to indicate the volume), and on/off switch.

for ANY large drives, get ones with USB3.0. Regardless of whether you will be transferring large amounts of data regularly, what happens when you DO decide to transfer most/all of the data off of the drive? Transferring 2TBs at USB2.0 speeds will realistically take 16-20 hours ("benchmark" speed tests are pointless, that number is from personal real-world experience) and you can knock 1/2 to 3/4s off of that. Thats a lot. Unless you are using it as a disposable drive, spend the $20 extra and get 3.0...
