Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo??????

Is there in existence a blu-ray trilogy of the ORIGINAL, UNALTERED films? I don't need the updated CGI-filled, greedo shooting first ones.

@johnnybisco37: I believe those were only released on DVD, and only for a limited time at that. I'd sure like a version where they clean it up, remaster the sound, etc. and release them on blu-ray without other alterations.

As far as I know the only way to get the originals in high quality is to get them on laser disc. So buy a laser disk player, the movies, a blu-ray burner, then you're money. You could start selling your bootleg badass copies on ebay and at conventions. I'll take a set!

You'll never get a Blu-ray of the Star Wars that you used to know!

"These aren't the blu-rays you're looking for..." (wave of hand)

Uh, when they say "original" do they mean the REAL original, or is it still the bastardized version with added scenes that nobody likes. Because if it's the former and not the latter, I'm in.

SS (and others) look for Wookie Groomer releases - Han shoots first. Usenet may be your friend. Episodes 4-6 ready for dual layer blu ray burning. Video from 1080i German broadcasts with English Dolby digital audio taken from US laser disc.

@chadfs: The stolen plans are not in the main computer.

How long until Disney comes out with a limited edition Blu ray set,(of the original) then retires it? Since Lucas sold it (after the soul sale), I expect he doesn't make those decisions anymore?

@linuxrandal: 20th Century Fox owns the rights to A New Hope permanently, and the video rights to the other films until May 2020. Hopefully Disney can work something out with them, but I'm not holding my breath.

I just watched the unaltered trilogy this weekend and it was awesome. If I were to do a blu ray release the only think I would keep from the special editions are a few additions from the space battle scenes and I would use Victory Celebration at the end of Jedi instead of the Yub Nub song.

Edit Droid Star Wars is all I'm sayin...

I'm tempted to buy these just to piss off all of the Star Wars geeks.

@skoffer: I am a star wars geek and Im tempted to get these just because I like the durability of Blu-Ray Discs... and my daughter has eaten my DVD copies.

@skoffer: You could also buy Star Trek on blu ray!

Other than videotapes, I think the last unaltered original trilogy release was the laser disc. As it happens I had that version. It sat around for years (literally, like 12 or 13) waiting to become valuable. I see that today they are going to 89 bucks. Which is about what I paid for them (maybe more) in 1996.

So, I finally got rid of them.

EDIT: Any reason not to buy the two separate trilogies 1-4, and 4-6 rather than the full collection? These two together are 66, the collection is 89.

@wilfbrim: There are a ton of special features on the complete collection that you don't get if you buy the two trilogies separately.

@alivelee: I should clarify my position. I am actually a huge Star Wars fan. I can hold my own in just about any Star Wars conversation. But, I am not so hardcore to have my view of the entire saga, or even Han Solo, changed by something as minor as "who shot first" or who's face sits on ghost Anakin's body at the end of ROTJ. Do I think that Lucas should have allowed someone else to direct the prequels? Yes...but I am still wildly entertained by Star Wars.

Hey, I hate Jar Jar Binks as much as the next guy.

@ken24s2: No Jedi mind trick needed for this.
These are the updated updated versions that just ruin SW. I was going to buy them on BR till I found out about all the additions.
So glad I downloaded these. Way to ruin your own classics Lucas.

Everyone. Just go check out Star Wars Revisited for the fan edited HD version of the original version of ANH. ESB is in the works.

@wilfbrim: There was a DVD release for each of the first three movies in 2006. This release had the original theatrical versions and the "enhanced" versions. The first movie is about $30 used on Amazon.

It should be noted that these two on-sale trilogies are great for someone who doesn't like ANY extras, because there are none. You get just the movies and no bonus or special features material WHATSOEVER.

Because of that, as for me, I'm going to wait until the entire boxed set containing ALL of the Blu-ray movies goes on sale, because the diffference is THREE bonus discs (nine instead of 6, with the last three containing the extras, bonus materials and special features.)

Just sayin'... ya get what ya pay for, but in this case, I want MORE!
