I have to confess, after viewing the extended versions, I can't imagine paying for the BluRay version of the theatrical releases (rather than waiting for the extended versions). Fantastic movies, but (for me), I can't see jumping to BluRay for this particular release.

Feel free to check out the Amazon reviews if you want to know how people really feel about this.

@xtopherous: This is exactly why the deal description notes the Amazon reviews...folks need to understand what they're considering buying, and make sure it's what they ultimately want. Thanks for the link.

Unfortunately I feel like the pulled a Fox-Avatar on this one. There was no reason for them to come out with the Theatrical version separately from the Extended on BluRay. If they wanted to do something special they should have released the Theatrical versions on individual discs for each movie and had a box set that had the Extended versions.

Is there anyone buying this? Holy smokes, knowing that there is an extended story out there that deserves our time, why on earth would anyone want to fork out any money for this? Make it $19.95 with free shipping and I might be tempted out of a twenty, otherwise the marketing people need to know this is an insult.

I bought the extended version already. this is not a deal.

Some people would like to see the filme in blu-ray, today, and this is the only way. I'm still waiting for the extended at the momemt though.

It's a fine set, and a great price.

If you're not interested in the theatrical releases, you don't have to buy it. Just don't expect that extended edition to come out any time soon. (And for all the whinging, I wouldn't be surprised if the studio never did.)

It not about being a fine set at a great price. The studio should have released the extended cut on blu-ray. Instead, they want to get every dollar out of the consumer. Yes, I don't have to buy it, but I have the right to complain that the extended version wasn't released. I have the trilogy, the extended version. It is beautiful. Would I get the extended version in Blu-ray, if the price is right or they offer a discount to the fans that purchased the dvd's. As one reviewer stated, how can anyone watch this version after seeing the extended version. There are beautiful scenes that had to be cut out of the theatrical version to shorten the film. I too would wait. The studious have enough money. No wonder people are bootlegging video's.

@chefraz: not in blu ray you didn't The greedy corporate movie executives want to see how much they can get out of you first. You can't tell me this movie hasn't paid for itself 3 times over. PLAIN GREED! That is why they released this version. They should have put both version on each Blu-ray. OH wait, that would make sense and would just benefit the fan's. The executives kids might not be able to drive a Porsche, might have to get a Honda. Sorry, go ahead and buy this version for the executives kids and many ex wives. Support corporate greed.

@mrsly69: are not the movie owners, the same as record companies. ahhh yes they are...greed indeed, but what you gonna do about it? this movie can be watched 1,000,000,000 x's and still be GREAT.made the correct way to all three at the same time. if they did the same thing to batman movies they would have be epic too. what I'm I saying? i don't know. carry on.
