1/4 Mile Potato Cannon (City Slicker Tennis Ball Attachment Available ) for $19.99 + $5.00 shipping
Way quicker than mailing potatoes a 1/4 mile away!
One of the more amusing, albeit brief product descriptions I've seen on here :)
As a Potato gun craftsman myself, I'd have to say that the 20 dollars is cheaper than buying the parts from a store to build one. But if you happen to have an old grill with an igniter sitting around and a few scraps of pipe lying around, you can build your own in under an hour. Happy Spudding!
For this price I wonder a bit about the quality of the components. These things can develop tremendous pressures and I think I would start to worry about my safety after a few launches.
Grabbed on of these for my son. Uses a flint to fire and is made out of PVC pipe. He finds it entertaining, but not sure if it would shoot something 1/4 mile.
Naaaah! I've got an app on my smartphone for that.
I bought one for hubby 4 months back from a woot-off. It is built very well, and hubby and I also agree that to make it from scratch with the size you get, you'd exceed the $24.99 you'd end up spending, plus trying to create the grind angle on the one end that functions as the potato cutter wouldn't be the easiest thing to duplicate. Plus, mine looks cool being all solid black vs a white one built from hardware store. We got the tennis ball attachment, which was white, but the dog LOVES when we launch one (tennis balls don't go 1/4 mile). So far it's been the hit of a few family parties where the guys end up gathering in the garage to chat.
Absolute Junk. I ordered one a few months ago and it never worked. It's also very very small. It fit into my mailbox when it was delivered. The chamber is about 2.5 inches in diameter and the firing tube is about 1". Its not longer than 2 feet when assembled. Poor construction and the ignition is a joke. Its a flint ignition that you get a spark out of about 2 times before it's shot. It also took about 14 days to get delivered.
I have built and owned a few potato guns in the past. Take my advice and build your own. Don't waste your time or money on this one.
The original price on this is $50, so it's a deal but I'm still skeptical on quality. Also, this is listed on their site under the 'Survival' heading. I'd rather build my own, but having the tennis ball barrel is AWESOME. HOWEVER, that being said... Build your own, and get the barrel from this guy:

BUY a potato gun? Forget that it might be slightly cheaper...building them is half of the fun and half of the point! Plus you're also giving up all of the options open to you when constructing your own.
It is worth the money and easy to use, sure you could build one but that would mean working which I am trying to minimize the effort it takes for me to move potatoes from point A to a 1/4 mile down the road at point B.
Can anyone else speak on the quality of these? I've seen them on woot multiple times but never pulled the trigger.
If anyone here was driving around a brand new subdivision (read: only 2 or 3 houses had begun construction) in a certain suburb of Dallas in '99 and had the trunk of their car caved in by a rogue potato that fell from the sky..... it was me. Sorry.
PS- My cannon had a 3-4 foot barrel with a 2 inch diameter and a one gallon hairspray chamber. Not a chance the above would have happened if I had used the one they're selling here.
Bought one of these for my little brother around Christmas time and opted for the tennis ball launcher for the dogs. I couldn't get either a potato or a tennis ball more than 100 feet and was seriously disappointed.
@mellielou: DO NOT BUILD A SPUD GUN WITH WHITE PIPE
Only use black abs pipe. pvc pipe will blow up on you and really mess you up
pvc will not withstand the pressure changes and will have a catastrophic failure.
I do like the fact that you can get a tennis ball attachment. It would be even better if it had a golf ball attachment... Oh yeah, and ATF approved! Even better!
Is it my bad recolection or are less and less folks downvoting this each time it comes back around?
For $30, it's worth it even if it works a few times.
