Will this work for a DSLR?
Good luck not snapping those flimsy legs off with a DSLR. Of course, you probably wouldn't be looking for a tripod like this if you needed something to support your 2lb+ beast camera. That being said, -1 on that thing's part for durability. It could sure get your camera close to the ground for some eye-popping macros, I guess.
ba chick wah wah is all I'm sayin!
Alright, maybe also useful for balancing a camera on your car's hood when you accidentally spot an amazing sunset one day and forget, OH CRAP, no tripod upon which to perch the professional camera I bring everywhere for candid full-daylight shots!
Well, lucky for you, you bought three of these on woot, and now have them stashed in your car, your bag, and in your camera case.
However, again, I must stress the wimpiness of the legs on this thing. But weigh that with missing a great shot and the price, and I'd have to say buy three. Also, bring along your RF remote, so you don't have to touch your camera while on this thing.
They're barely usable for a point-and-shoot or a webcam. Don't even think about putting a DSLR on them.
It just doesn't hold up well after time...I stopped using it in favor of a little beanbag instead. Or pony up a few more bucks and get a Gorillapod, which has some more stability.
Also, I might be spoiled. I bought this all-steel mini-tripod I saw in a pawn shop for $10, and the legs are, again, made of steel ... corrugated steel, for beating stuff with and not breaking. Compared to that, this thing is weak. But still probably a good deal, and you'd definitely be getting that shake-free shot I didn't, 'cause I didn't buy these things and am lazy.
@salsashark42: Ah, a beanbag wouldn't be a bad idea. Certainly more stable, and with much more adjustable poses.
Is this compatible with a cellphone? That's the camera of choice in our house!
Oh, those legs extend? Dear God, no. Do NOT extend those legs. Less sturdy than R/C car antennae. Okay, going to bed. Did I mention I like coffee?
@mjc613: Yeah, just pre-drill the hole and the tripod should screw right to it. Also, it might void your warranty, but when has that ever stopped us?
Bought one at a dollar store. My 3-yr old child broke it. Not a great deal due to 5-dollar shipping but if you really want a cheapo tripod for a cheapo price that is what you will get.
This is the exact same one they sell at my local Dollar Tree... for a dollar. It's a piece of trash.
This thing is really stupid. It only fixes itself in about 4 or 5 positions in the vertical axis, and of course, every single time, the position you want is between the settings. This is, perhaps, one of the most annoying products I have ever used. I find myself putting a magazine under it or a few pages of a book, or whatever, to get "in between" heights. Skip it, for 49 cents, it is overpriced by 49 cents.
Not worth it even if the shipping was free. Get a bean bag or a Gorillapod if you want lightweight support for a camera.
Got three of these whenever they were on either here or the regular Woot. Gave them as Christmas gifts. Everyone thought they were a great gift. One of those things that are handy to have whenever the need arises, even if it isn't often. We used one of them the day after Christmas for a family pic!
its plain and simple. it's not worth it and ur wasting 6 bux. don't get it at all
Got these when they were on woot a while back.
For the price, kinda nice to have. Put one in the office, one in the car, and one in the backpack...always have the camara with me.
I wouldn't trust them with a heavy camara, only the smaller ones.
the top roates in all directions. Front and back will go 90, but side to side will only go about 10-15. (depending on how you mount, front/back = side/side)
the base, however, is not like a normal tripod. One of the legs does not move, the others only move in one direction. setting it on something slightly slanted, such as the trunk/roof of a car can be quite tricky. especially because the feet are plastic, not rubber. Also seems like they are pretty flimsy. But 6.50 for 3, or 2$ and change each, you can't expect the best quality. Works for what I need...until i break it.
I'd get this if it shipped for $2...
I used this with a few older-model Kodak Point-and-Shoots, and it worked great for that. I tried using this with a P850, and it couldn't bear that much weight.
That said, if you're looking for a table-top solution for your lighter-weight camera, I say go for it. It's lasted me and is still in my camera bag despite it not being the best solution for my preferred camera.
Keep in mind: The legs on this extend further than the picture shows: Pull on the ends of the legs, and it will telescope to another 4 inches.
Does this work on the flip camera?
I got one for free from another deal website with an additional 5 dollar off coupon on top of it...
Don't order more than one of these: you'll only receive one. I purchased 3 during the November wootoff because, hey, what's another dollar to get 2 more! However, only one of them arrived and the tracking said it was all that was to be delivered!
Also never received a laptop bag I paid for from that wootoff as well... <_< Tracking said it was delivered, but neither my wife nor I saw it arrive, and I don't think that my 6-month-old baby would have taken it.
Thanks a lot woot.
@metanoia29: That's a bummer, though I don't show that you emailed into us to let us know about the problems you had been having.
For the tripods, we're sorry that you were shorted- I have refunded you for the two you did not get. For the laptop bag, did you check with the post office to see if they could help you locate it? Sometimes packages are misdelivered or held at the post office even when shown as "delivered". Please feel free to email into us (service@woot.com) to discuss further, we're here to help in those situations!
I picked up a couple of these for $3 at Christmas for stocking stuffers. They are WORTHLESS. One was broken upon removing and the other broke in a few minutes. The plastic joints break right away. Buy a coffee instead.
@mkentosh: Brown Chicken Brown Cow! I purchased 3 of these suckers last time on a w00t-off. They are cheap but serve their purpose. Great for homemade porn. If you have more than one camera you can get more tripods and have them all going at once for different angles. Then edit them together in one movie!!! Great for selling to make a couple bucks on the side ;P
Sadly, there are many of these made with varying qualities. The metal ones are fine, the plastic ones are not. I think you can spend a couple more dollars at a local store. If you have a DSLR you need something bigger and better.
Dang it! I just paid full Woot price 10 days ago and now its going for 50-cents. :(
yeah if your gonna buy this, buy over 3 because the shipping itself is 5$ not worth the 49cents + shipping...lol
