EAGERLY awaiting Portal 2. Maybe the cake isn't really a lie?

vote-for6vote-against

Also, it's available for Mac now.

vote-for2vote-against

Beat me to it.

Great game, no excuse not to own it.

vote-for6vote-against

Definitely in for this. Already own it with "Orange Box" for the Xbox360, but an additional copy for the PC for free? You bet!

vote-for3vote-against

@dave bug: cool part is that if you already own this on PC, you can play this on your MAC too.

vote-for2vote-against

"So you only have a few days to decide if your free copy of Portal is worth the price we're currently charging."

Ok, from this statement it sounds to me like it is free to download and play until the 24th... after that does Steam lock it again forcing you to pay if you want to continue playing?

vote-for7vote-against

@pow: Based on what I know about steam I believe Steam will not ask for an additional payment. Steam has always been a one pay for their games. If they were to actually make you pay the rest, it would say trial or a free weekend for it (that what steam does for weekends) and lock the game after. There just upping their fan base so when Portal 2 comes it will sell faster and more chatter amongst the gaming community. They created an oxymoron (is it an oxymoron? don't care anyways)to imply that you should get portal no matter what as it is free and your not losing nothing but bandwidth from the deal.

Portal is a magnificent game to have around and if anyone cares about my opinion this game will provide many hours of constant challenges for your brain to overcome. Not only will you test yourself till the completion of the game but once finished you can replay the game and still enjoy it for the challenges, the amazing story and the familiar song.

This game has been approved by 1ring1.

vote-for2vote-against

haha u beat me to it I was about to post a link. anyhow, it's completely legit, valve using it as a gimmick to break into the mac market now that they've ported all their games.

vote-for1vote-against

The cake was never a lie. She was just waiting for someone to finish... oh, and she's still alive.

vote-for5vote-against

Warning: this is not a game for someone with serious motion sickness.
Portal prelude anyone?

vote-for7vote-against

I'm making a note here, huge success.

vote-for1vote-against

Portal rocks!!! Can't wait for Portal 2 or HL2 Ep3!

vote-for8vote-against

@creamsteve: Download steam and create an account first if you don't have one. Then after come back here and clink on the link. On that page click on the image on the left side that says "GET PORTAL NOW" then you will be directed to log in, follow instructions from there.

Or once logged in using the steam application go the product page of Portal (By using search or by category and looking through the pages for the game), there will be a button near the video that says Play Portal. Click on that link and the game will be activated for your account. Then go your Library tab and download Portal. Once finished downloading / installing / updating you can launch Portal and play it.

... Much easier once you got your account to go directly to: http://store.steampowered.com/app/400 then press play now to activate your account for the game.....Sigh hopes this helps.

@entity17: I use anti-nausea wrist bands. http://www.amazon.com/Sea-Band-Original-Wristband-Adult-Size/dp/B000GCMXZM You can get them at just about any pharmacy in the section for motion sickness stuff.

vote-for1vote-against

@1ring1: I was kidding... You know, giant red button. Just wanted to be that guy, that's all. Thank you for your well written description though.

vote-for5vote-against

It's hard to overstate my satisfaction

vote-for1vote-against

Servers are buried right now.

vote-for1vote-against

So, I'm still pumped about being able to play Portal. This is taking forever to DL.... How's everyone else doing?

vote-for1vote-against

Awesome, thanks so much to the OP. Download is at 88%.

vote-for1vote-against

Anyone elses download randomly pausing?

vote-for1vote-against

it took me all of like 12 mins to download so no download issues here

vote-for1vote-against

This is perfect! I can try it out on my brand new laptop :D

vote-for1vote-against

I have been waiting for just such a deal. Played it back in the day on my friend's 360 and can't wait to fire it up on PC. Thanks so much for posting this!

vote-for1vote-against

IN FOR 3!

But really, I did get one for my mac :D love it :D

vote-for4vote-against

My favorite part of Portal was definitely the sounds that the turrets make. So hauntingly creepy.

"HellllOOoOOooooo..."

"Are you still there..."

"Why don't you come over here..."

vote-for1vote-against

I've never played this before... It's going to take like 2 hours to download too... What's it about?

vote-for0vote-against

I'm also not familiar with this Portal download. Is it free to play? What makes it so popular?

vote-for1vote-against

Worked for me. You have to keep pressing ... um... "Play game" if I remember right... when the download "pauses". It doesn't seem like it will unpause itself. Still, it took about an hour of babysitting the silly thing to get it to download finally. :(

vote-for2vote-against

WHOOHOO - finally downloaded (for Mac). Took about two hours of babysitting, but it is sooo worth it. Never played it before - spent about an hour playing and am already hooked.

Get this game.

vote-for3vote-against

Steam's servers are likely getting hammered, so downloads will be a bit... sludgy... for a while. If you've already GOT the game, and are just picking up a 'spare', do the right thing and stop the download, free up some space for those who have yet to experience the joy of a well-crafted game.

vote-for1vote-against

like anyone has a mac with the intention of gaming anyways

vote-for3vote-against

Don't forget to check out the Humble Bundle for name your own price games at www.wolfire.com/humble

You can get 6 great games and have your donation go to charity, be it 1 cent or more.

You can also get the free unofficial expansion to Portal called Portal: Prelude here: www.portalprelude.com

@sillycell: Portal is a short (2-3 hours to complete) puzzle game. As you can see from other comments it has inspired a cult following mainly because of it's witty and slightly dark sense of humor. Steam is a very respectable company so there are no worries downloading from them, and the game runs on the source engine so that newer computers should have no problem running it.

vote-for4vote-against

This is one of the few MUST OWN games. It takes as long as you want it to take to finish, the writing is funny, and the game play is phenomenal. I buy all my games from Steam these days if at all possible (I currently own 82 games on my Steam account) and you can't beat the Portal price!

vote-for3vote-against

To download this, you will have to create an account and download Steam. No credit card is required, and Valve will never charge you for anything unless you go out of your way to buy it.

If you're having trouble with the download you can try right-clicking the game in your library, 'pausing' it, and then right-clicking again to 'resume', but I'd say just wait it out. Once you've 'purchased' the game it will stay linked with your Steam account forever, so just give the servers some time to recover from the pounding they're undoubtedly taking.

vote-for1vote-against

Can't wait to get home a try it out.

vote-for1vote-against

Anyone who beat the game or beat the challenge at PAX East will know that the cake actually ISN'T a lie. The cake is waiting in the party room, aka brain locker for GlaDoS. Siunce portal 2 centers around the alternate personality spheres, it is HIGHLY likely there WILL be cake.

Please assume the party position, and a party expert will be along to collect you. They even invited your friend, Companion Cube.

vote-for1vote-against

@wootfast: That is very creative, was that by you or by an image posting board? Either way a good link to check out.

vote-for1vote-against

@mrotaku: "the game runs on the source engine" -- does this mean you have to be conneced to the internet to play? I spend most of my time outside web access, so if that's the case this wouldn't be worth it to me.

vote-for1vote-against

@wootfast: OMG Epic... Thanks for the daily laugh !

vote-for2vote-against

@moondrake: After you install the game (and run it once, I believe), you can set Steam to run in "Offline Mode", so no internet connection is required to play
