I don't get this, and I like Macs.

It can't run a modern version of Mac OS. Apple's attitude toward old hardware, combined with the switch to Intel has more or less killed the utility of pre-Intel Macs.

Because Apple manages Java updates for Oracle, you can't even get a secure runtime. If I'm not mistaken, you can't really get a current browser running on it. The 40GB hard drive is teeny by modern standards. The same money will get you a really Windows 7 Premium laptop with several times the hard drive space and an actual modern operating system.

Unless you have a classic (OS 9 or earlier) app to run, I'd skip it.

@shumacher: Ditto. I completely agree.
You don't see any PC folk running around exclaiming how their PII system still runs DOS 3.3 and the original Spacequest games. And unless you're too old to learn any new words I can't see any app on OS9 that hasn't been done better on OSX.
Howsa bout: Frys: Lenovo 15.6" Laptop G575 with AMD Dual-Core E-450 Processor, 2gb ram, 320gb HDD, AND it's $5 cheaper. And maybe Leopard might install on it- you can't do that with the iBook!
