Just curious, and not trying to sound like an intel fanbody, but what advantages does this have over the unlocked high tier i-5s that run at a lower price? Is this just an integrated graphical performance increase? I have an older 2500k and run a dedicated video card, would this offer any performance increases, if so, where?

Your i5-2700k benchmarks at 6499 (Passmark) the 9590 benchmarks at 10319. The intel i7-4770K benchmarks at 10314 for about $329.00.

The 4770k runs at 84 watts. This one is at 220 watts. Why does it consume so much power?

The AMD consumes more power primarily because it has 8 processing cores, the processor is an essentially higher clocked 8350 by default, and is a physically larger process at 32 nm versus 4th gen intel procs at 22 nm. The advantages you would get over your current processor are fairly large, but for the cost of switching to an AMD platform for this you may as well upgrade to the i5 4670k. The benefits become mostly negligible at that point unless you are streaming while gaming. I personally am running an i7 4770k, about $100 more to set that up, and it is all around better. I like both companies, but the 9590 just isn't worth it in my opinion. If I wanted AMD I would go with the 8350 or wait on the next gen parts. Also the FX line does not have native video support and you must have a discrete solution for video, which you said you already have.
